We have been a custermer of Diect tv for ten years. Our bill kept creeping up over the years, we payed no attention and had the bill paid through our bank account. When we finally caught it we called Direct Tv and got the run around. We dropped them and went to cable. Direct tv called and apologized for our bad experience and offered us some deals. I told them we would come back but my I wanted the cost and monthly cost up front. They told me for these prices I would be under a one year contract. I said ok that will work. The installer just left my house with their equipment. They decided that I needed to pay them $199.00 for a receiver. I told them that was not the deal. They told me that I was under contract and would be charged a cancellation fee. My response was when hell freezes over. Now I have to figure out how to keep them out of my checking account. Any advice here will help. What a piece of crap,of a,company. (Sorry for the missed spellings but I am,pissed, off, and don't care)

I can feel your pain. I have over the years used Directv, Dish, & Comcast for TV service. Of the 3, I would say that Comcast is the worst, but Directv and Dish are not much better. They all have very poor Customer Service, but of the 3, I would say that Directv has done marginally better then the other 2. None of them ever miss a rate increase the first year even though you supposedly have a contract. There are choices now that allow streaming over the Internet. Look into a Roku streaming system (cost as little as $20.00 for a rebuilt system...check Ebay) to give you lots of free channels as well as access to paid services such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon etc. that each sell for between $6. & $9. per month. You will need a fast internet connection to stream without experiencing interruptions (10 mb will do it) It is really a worthwhile change, and it frees you from the irritation of dealing with those cable/satellite jerks.

I have successfully digitized hundreds of slides using an Epson scanner with slide converter attachment. It has good software for correction of the slides and does 4 at a time.
There are other dedicated converters available, some are quite a bit faster. Just do a search on ebay or google for descriptions.

The food stamp program was setup to aid citizens that were too poor to provide nutritious food for themselves and their families. Over the years it has degenerated to the point that a significant majority of the programs users are simply taking advantage of the free giveaways to score extra income. There is no one in or out of the government that systematically reviews or checks if there is any valid reason for a given recipient to be given the benefit once it has been conferred on a recipient. Stores do not adhere to restrictions on what can be purchased with the benefit, and there is a thriving market for the recipients to sell their benefit at discount for cash. The system is broken and is symptomatic of the condition of the entire welfare system. It is illogical that the richest country in the world is populated by 50%+ of its citizens that can't afford to feed themselves. There is a similar corruption of the Disability benefit program. A huge number of the claimants are awarded benefits for phoney disability's but seldom is there any followup to catch the cheaters. Cleaning up these corrupt programs would provide the much needed funds to update and maintain our country's infrastructure which is literally falling apart.

I'm not understanding the purpose of re-formatting my SD cards all the time. My Nikons have always formatted the cards when I turn the camera on when the card is new. Either that or it come pre-formatted, because I never use the menu to do it. They always worked right from the start. I just delete the older images with Windows Explorer from the card to make space. Is there a real reason to format vs just deleting them?

Reformatting your card is a healthy procedure for the card. It finds and isolated any bad sectors and bytes that have become corrupted, and in addition it cleans all the previously deleted file info from the card so that new files do not have to contend with over-writting that old info.

Bridge cameras are a type of mirrorless camera.

The cameras listed above are also mirrorless. They produce some of the best image quality available in the right hands. ;)

Just a small point: It was my understanding that "Bridge Camera" referred to a class of equipment that was positioned between a "Point & Shoot" type and a "DSLR", ie many of the features of a DSLR but no interchangeable lens capability. Example: Panasonic FZ series. I don't believe it necessarily refers to Mirror-less cameras per se.

"The War On Poverty" has actually be quite successful.....at wealth redistribution! It has done very little on eliminating Poverty though. The Government has spent literally Trillions of dollars since the programs inception with very little results. One should remember the definition of madness, ie "doing the same thing over and over expecting to achieve different results" Welfare DOES NOT WORK in its present form. Both Welfare and Extended Unemployment benefits encourages non-work (at least "on the books"). It has become a way of life for at least 40% of the country, and is passed on generation-ally so there can be very little improvement to ever look forward to, given using the same methods which are used now. We have just about reached the tipping point of the ratio of Welfare collectors to Non-Collectors which will guaranty that government policy will not change except to add additional free support measures for the masses that work the system. The only thing that will change this country's drive to the bottom is the non-collectors (Tax-Payers) vociferous demand that their Representatives change the laws that govern the give-aways of our system. Adding a work requirement with a compensating change to our tax laws that would insure that welfare recipients are not penalized monetarily for working would be a big first step.

I sure as hell hope there is more to this story than what is presented, by I assume a right wing blog.

If its true, this will blow up. Employers are legally required to check for legal work status. How can it be made illegal to check said status? Makes no sense.

At least in Texas we have had businesses raided and shut down for consistently hiring undocumented workers. Workers detained during the raids and taken away.

I don't get this. It would be a stretch even for Obama...

If you don't believe these changes, then you are not paying attention to the NEWS releases. What seems like madness on the part of the Obama administration is a well orchestrated plan to flood our country with immigrants that will enter the workforce and become both Union members and Democratic Party v**ers. The Democrats are doing all in their power to maintain their rule of the USA for generations to come. Obama promised to "Fundamentally Remake the USA" and he is well on his way to do just that. He feels that the White Race has unjustly managed the Country and he will do anything needed to subordinate that race to a minority, and by stoking the political animosities of the two parties he has divided and pretty well conquered the opposition. One should also take note of the new laws he has mandated with the stroke of his pen that are making it prohibitive to invest or take ones wealth out of the country, and most recently he has increased the tax assessed to the act of giving up ones US Citizenship by a factor of almost 10. We don't yet have walls to keep us from leaving the USA, but that is no longer as far-fetched as it used to be. Keep your eyes and ears open and you will feel that government leash tightening.

This whole issue is based on hobby lobby wanting to rule employee benefits because of religious beliefs. The issue has been decided by the supreme court and a way for the health coverage to include all issues has been found. So whats the big deal. You are making a contest out of this and its just silly. unfortunately an accommodation had to be found because of the religious beliefs of hobby lobby, a total waste of time and effort. So everybody got what they wanted. What will happen when a muslim opens a business and wants all of the employees to live by sharia law? I guess that a business has the right to exclude gay people and next there will be businesses excluding black people or chinese people. For a supposed religious person you are very angry. I guess that religious people are just angry people at heart. BY the way if you check back at previous posts I have been called a variety of names so it seems to me that my response is justified in certain cases.

Silver, the crux of the matter is that the ACA was demanding that the owners of the company partake in an action that the owners believed was sinful and totally against their deep rooted, and recognized, religious beliefs, and Rights, which is of course against our nations Constitution. The points that you refer to can not be viewed in the same context because discrimination for race is specifically prohibited by law, and Sharia law is not recognized by our legal system. However that being said, no employee can be forced to stay in the employ of a company or individual. They can leave for any reason at all, and if an employee finds the restriction of those few contraceptives to be a deal breaker for their happy employment, then they can and should work elsewhere. What was wrongful in the Hobby Lobby case was the government was forcing an act upon a citizen that was abhorrent to that citizen because it forced that citizen to sin against his religious beliefs, and until the SCOTUS changed the law, that citizen would have suffered punishment by the government for his beliefs, which is an infringement of our Bill of Rights. Surely you can see the justice of that decision if you consider how troubling the law was to that employer. It was never a matter of money, it was a matter of conscious.

None of this would be necessary if it weren't for people as the ones that feel that they have the right to impose religious beliefs on their employees and people that own restaurants that have discounts for people that pray. There is no lie here, just religious people forcing their beliefs on others.

Incredibly bad logic! With your rationale, the government, as well as the non-believers are "imposing" their beliefs on the rest of the citizens that do have Religious Beliefs concerning abortion and contraception (which number around 80% of the population) That is certainly tyranny by the minority. Also keep in mind that ever since Lincoln freed the slaves, if an employee really feels oppressed, he/she is perfectly free to leave and go to a more liberal place of employment.

Top ten metro areas probably have LEO's who are or can be adequately trained, and occasionally need major equipment. The incident in the OP was one. But its pretty rare.

Small town forces being given military equipment is nuts. They do not have the training to know when to use it or how to use it . It just goes to their heads!

I gotta big gun, you better get outta my way!

What did that cop in Ferguson say to the protesters as he aimed his AR15 at them? "I will F##king kill you...shut the F##K UP!"

So you would rather have women have the resulting babies that probably end up on welfare or state aid rather then have birth control available for a couple of dollars? The denial of birth control by businesses that claim to be so religious that any of their female is truly disgusting, its shameful that female employees are not allowed to be covered with birth control. These people are hypocrites and just evil. If you think that any sane person will stop having sex you are a real nut. How about married women that dont want to have any more children or none at all, are they going to be forced to find help from other sources when men have no restrictions whatsoever? This is not an expensive thing to have birth control, oh yeah, you would rather see all those women have babies that they can't care for.

The position taken by this responder is truly baffling. It is hard to believe that there is anyone left in the USA that does not know that the SCOTUS decision only pertained to 4 specific devices out of the 16 that are available for women to use, and BTW have the taxpayer or employer pay for. Why the public should be required to pay for them to begin with is a mystery, but that"s another thread for another day. It seems the lie about "depriving women of Birth Control" being put out by the Left is just more sophistry on their part as an attempt to dupe the sheeple that won't take the time to learn the truth, and that is shameful. As has been said on another occasion: "Do these people have no shame???"

Obviously Wasserman does not believe in the rule of law when it goes against her. The SCOTUS is supposedly the last stop for deciding what the LAW of the US is, but that is not good enough for Wasserman.

This Fergeson situation is all about the politicians and their agenda. The politico's are on stage playing to their constituents hoping for personal gains, meanwhile by their actions they are going to put that Cop who was just doing his job, on quick road to jail, mainly for expediency. We collectively shake our heads about what goes on in Iraq with their divided religious beliefs causing terrible injustices but we now have the same thing going on with race here in the USA. We are in the process of creating a political system that allows one group to get a pass for strong-armed robbery, looting, and mayhem, while the legally constituted authority is persecuted for doing their job. That Cop has very little chance of being exonerated in that town, simply because he is the wrong color according to the local majority. Notice that no one is talking about his RIGHTS!
