On 17/12/16 I part exchanged my 2 x Olympus EM1 bodies for a single Olympus EM1 mark II and it is stunning. The AF is fast and accurate and I am able to achieve a high percentage of bird in flight keepers. The Pro Capture (available in full RAW) mode is just brilliant and 18fps simply fantastic. Battery life is incredible and I regularly take over 1000 shots with less than half the battery used up. The IBIS is the best available and the lenses are numerous and beautiful. Check out the Olympus E-M1II Facebook page for comments and images from numerous users. I almost bought a Fuji X-T2 but I am really pleased I bought the EM1 mark II instead.

As an Olympus user I am also more than happy with my omd 1 MkII.
However, I only shoot in Raw and neither Lightroom nor my trusty Apple Aperture have updated their Rawformats to the new Olympus.
Do you shoot in raw and if so whT software do you use for post processing?
Thanks

Olympus. See signature.
Lighter, faster and quieter than a DSLR. IQ is just as good as a DSLR.

I am also a very avid Olympus fan. Three yrs ago I traded my Canon full frame 6D for a Panasonic GX7 which lasted about eight months when I bit the bullet and bought the Olympus omd 5 MkII which I loved: until the omd 1 MkII came out last month. I love it: Olympus really learned from experience. This camera is a gem. But the real advantage of Olympus is their lens selection: you can buy from their 'consumer' selection at very good pricing or from their 'pro' list. Personally, I have 6 of their lens of which five are the pro version.
Not only is the 1MkIi body very well constructed, grip friendly, but the software is extensive but easy to remember and use. Finally the newly designed battery has 2.5 times the capacity of their previous ones.
Fortunately we live in Minneapolis where a privately owned camera company with 4 outlets has been going for many years: they are professionals and their pricing equals Amazon, etc. They have been a godsend for me over the past 28 years.
Sony was my other consideration but their lens selection was limited.
Olympus can also use Panasonic lens of which I have one.

I'll stand by my previous statement. Cheers to all, Ralph.

Ray, I'll take the bet; only because you are buried in the north woods of Wisconsin and wouldn't be able to find your way southwest to Minneapolis where we live!!
Sorry, I couldn't resist as a not too distant neighbor!

Sorry to differ with you, Ralph but my omd 5 MkII which came out after Apple stopped supporting Aperture had no problem having RAW images developed by Aperture. Once again google Apple Aperture Raw Format and you will see your error in thinking.

Thanks but if you look at the list of RAW formats of all cameras that Apple supports you will see that it is up to date excepting for the OmD 1 MkII. Maybe I'm just impatient but right now I am shooting and have to download to my Affinity software, post process, and export and save in Aperture.

I do also use the Olympus software but it is just as slow as Affinity.
If you google Apple Aperture RAW format you will see the camera formats listed which include all the latest models excepting the 1 MKII. I am assuming Apple will update the format soon. My camera only came out late Nov, early Dec.

I have been using Aperture for a number of years for its library and PP capabilities. Apple is no longer supporting the program except they have been updating their RAW formatting. I just switched from the Olympus omd 5 MkII which I had downloaded RAw to Aperture with no problem to the OMD 1 MK II which I love. It it's RAW format is not so far accepted by Aperture.
I'm considering adding Lightroom for post processing and keeping my Aperture library unless I can migrate the library over to Lightroom with no problem. I have about 30,000 photos on external drives.
Your thoughts and advice please. Thanks.

Looking for a good deal on a well cared for used Oly OMD -EM-10, OR EM 1 or EM 5 camera with at least one lens. Would consider a cash deal, but prefer a trade for my LN Canon t2i and a 2 or 3 Canon lenses. PM if interested, and with any questions. Thank you.

I am selling my 1 1/2 yr old OMD 5 MkII, 5300 shutter count, 3 batteries & chargers, and Olympus grip (screw on) for $750 including setup CD and original box.
I'm buying the new OMD 1 MkII.
Any interest?

That's OK. It was oversight on my part to use DSLR in the theme, I should have said "interchangeable lens camera" instead of DSLR.

I shoot M43 as well, a lot, and there are two residents that share about equal time on my M43 body. The first is a 14-45mm Panasonic lens, and the other is a 9-18mm Olympus.

Hmmm. Methinks I really should consider buying another M43 body.

Another M43 here: my workhorse is the Olympus 12-40 2.8 on my OMD 5 MKII

According to the Accuweather weather site the moon rises at 4:52 over Portland Maine tonight. I was out last night in Minneapolis for the moonrise at 4:40 here. There were a number of us at the ready standing on a bridge over one of our downtown lakes. Actually we waited about another 10 minutes for it to clear the landscape and peak through the trees on the other side of the lake. We shot magnificent views for the next 30 minutes at least.
Check the Accuweather site for your area and tap on today's forecast for more info below. You will see the sunrise/set and Moonrise/set times. Last night it rose directly in the east for us. Tripod, separate trigger, and lens of 400mm are recommended. Good shooting. Looks like the weather will cooperate in Maine!

I have a MacBook Pro also. Because of storage limitations I use 2 external drives. I still use Aperture because of its post processing capabilities. I never used Photo because of its severe limitations. Thus in Aperture or Photos on the Mac I created an external Library for Aperture to my External drive for my photos. Without the drive attached obviously I cannot access my photos. The 2nd drive backs up the complete hard drive on my Mac. So when I download photos from my camera card they go directly to Aperture which stores then in Aperture. I can view then and PP them. I also have Affinity which I Really like but it does not have a storage library capability. So I download a photo from Aperture onto my Desktop and upload it to Affinity.

I have had the Olympus 5 MkII for over a year now along with 3 Prime lens f1.8 and 3 Zooms: 12-40 f2.8, 7-14 f2.8, and Panasonic 45-200 1:4-5.6. Couldn't be more pleased! Yes, the camera is 'waterproof'. The software is awesome and I am still learning with it.
I made this choice over the Sony last year because at that time Olympus had a full selection of lens, Sony did not, and the price for what I wanted was better than what I would have had to spend on a Sony. More so, Olympus has a long proven history of photography equipment. Actually covered in dust in my basement is a 1970's OM1!
As to 4/3 and Nikon I just heard from a photographer friend of mine that Nikon has or will be introducing their model this year probably at the Photokina exhibition in Gremany later this year. They were ready to go with the 4/3 earlier but apparently discovered a major fault in the camera.
BTW, I went from the full frame Canon 6D to the Olympus and have not looked back!
Also, l don't know about Sony but the Olympus 5 MKII has the stabilization build into the body and it is great.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.

We visited The Upper Antelope Canyon in April 2012. We were trucked out to the entrance by the grandson of the landowners. We were fortunate because he also became our guide. He showed us several internal views I would have missed. Also we had been told to visit when the sun was at its peak so the light inside was also at its peak. I was using a Canon 7D at the time with a Sigma 10-20 lens and set at ISO 400 at 5.6. Here is an example of what the young guide showed us:

Very interesting and informative discussion. I started with PS several years ago and updated whenever necessary. Then I switched computers to an Apple about 5 years ago and am totally in love with it. I never used their iPhoto program but immediately purchased their professional Aperture software which has been my mainstay for all editing and library purposes. Of course Apple does not support it anymore but it still is fully functional. I kept PS CS4 but over time forgot how to use many of its functions so I took it off my computer. All my PP is really done within Aperture with one now two exceptions: I have been using the Promatix Pro 5 software for Landscape HDR PP which I love; second, I recently purchased for about $90, the new Affinity software which is basically somewhat of a clone of PS but a lot less complicated and very easy to learn. It has had very good reviews. Even with these two additional programs I try to keep the complete process as simple as possible with most of my efforts devoted to capturing the correct photo with the camera!
