Ok thanks. Anyone else have a suggestion?

Have you considered a CamRanger? You can get one in like new condition on eBay for about $200. It has a lot of capability including tethered wireless shooting to Lightroom. Just depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

The 100-400 I is a solid lens and can be purchased for about $750. It is a Push Pull zoom. The 100-400 II is one of Canon's best lenses for the money. It is external zoom meaning the length changes as you zoom in or out. Not ideal for tripod shooting, but manageable. My friend Tara shoots the 100-400 II a ton on her 5D3. View her photos at Black Rock Photography on FB.

The 2.0 TC will cost you 2 stops of aperture, the 1.4 will cost 1 stop. Auto focus will be pend on the body you shoot and it's focus system.

To my knowledge in the Canon line ONLY the 1Dx has that capability.
Maybe the new new 5DlV will but I'm not aware of it.

I know the 1Dx Mk II has the ability to link the focus point selected to spot meter point. I believe it may even be available on the older 1D Mk III but I don't remember for sure.

Manual focus using live view and 10x zoom might be a viable option with the 2.0 TC. You won't be catching fast action with it in Manual focus. Be sure to get the Mk III TC. The 1.4 is probably your best option with the 100-400. I use the 2.0 with my 70-200 f/2.8 II, which gives me f/5.6 aperture.

Very likely the guy only has a 1920x1080 projector. I know we can buy 4K projector with 3840x2160 but that still not really beat the slide. The 8K projector I heard is available but I haven't seen one yet.

regardless of the the image files how many pixels can the projector handle? Unless someone use an 8K projector the digital files won't be as good as a good 35mm slide.

This is the issue the OP was talking about from the first post as I read it. Digital projectors just don't have the resolution, because they are digital...VGA, SVGA or perhaps better today... I don't follow the market for such devices...

Is the resolution of the projector really the issue here? Projecting a film slide vs projecting a digital data file... I am thinking viewing VGA vs HD resolution is going to be very different? Or am I missing something...

here is where the question about resolution and print size went. he is an underwater photographer that started out with film and moved to digital. he tried a crop sensor and now a full frame sensor camera. he likes to us a projector and blow them up on a screen. he compares digital pics to film/slides and says the slides give much better resolution when projecting them on a screen. neither the crop sensor or full size sensor camera would give him the resolution he needs to project the images. crop sensor camera was worse than the full size sensor camera when projecting the images. i believe the resolution of the 18megapix crop sensor camera is the same as that of the full frame because they are both 18megapix sensors...but he came up with dividing 18 by the 1.6 crop factor and came up with an actual resolution of 11.25 due to the sensor size. who is right?

Invest in a ColorChecker Passport if you shoot in RAW.
It will transform your photos color accuracy.

Niel is certainly very good at Speedlite lighting, but while I can see how the BFT can block the flash from traveling in certain directions I don't really see how it would add to the output at all. He seems to like to bounce his light off nearby walls or ceilings. That is fine if they are available. But that is not always the case.

I believe I also saw him doing a promotional video for the new $1000 Profoto A1 flash. But I didn't see him throw a BFT on it... I guess I would like to see your shots of a large group using a Speedlite or two with BFT if you would be willing to share with us.

I am not only waiting, but will pass GAS completely. I recently upgraded to a Df from a D5300 (kept the D5300 for video and on the advice of UHHers). I found that FX glass, no surprise, is much more expensive. So while I learn the camera, I am also much more selective about glass purchases. I have one great 50mm f1.4 and two used lenses - WA zoom and a long zoom. The long zoom cost me all of $25! Will it be a great piece of glass? I doubt it, but it will help me decide what I really want in a long zoom. Ditto on the WA zoom. Although better and more $$, it will also show me the way on the short end. So with a total of about $600, I can cover: 18-35, 50, 70-300. Now I can go to "school" and learn more about the craft and about what I really will use. BTW, not bragging, but I could afford to spend the money, but choose not to. Somehow, money in the bank already is much harder to spend.... still learning patience even at my age! I am thankful for the hoggers who make this site so useful and interesting.

true but when you charge over 100 for a piece of silicone an 2 magnets and have it made overseas for pennies you are begging someone to copy it

Show me where they charge anywhere near over $100 for a piece of silicone and two magnets...
If you don't believe in intellectual property rights and don't want to buy MagMod products that is your choice.
But don't go around bashing some of the best stuff to come along for Speedlites in a good long time because of it.
I guess using your logic we should be able to buy a new Nikon D850 for $150 after all it is just a few dollars worth of metal, some sand and plastics.

Converting from CR2 RAW files to PNG will lose some of the RAW data during the conversion to PNG. Some of this data can only be accessed and manipulated by DPP from Canon. The advantage to converting to PNG as I understand it is that the changes/edits, which I believe are stored as XML files, are merged into the PNG file format so you are only dealing with one resulting file. I keep my CR2 files and use Lightroom primarily to make corrections and edits. Occasionally I will do some work in Photoshop too...

Canon uses the term "body" and "chassis" interchangeably in their specs, which does lead to confusion, but it is still the component upon which everything else is mounted, including the body panels. That makes it a frame so far as I am concerned. You call it what you like.

I always wonder about people/photographers who use cheap copies of items from China.
Do they complain if someone uses their photos without compensation or for commercial gain...
It makes me wonder...

I have little use for companies that steal intellectual property...

If you open the RAW file and it looks good you should be able to save as JPEG which would look the same isn't that true?

Not necessarily... it depends upon the settings being used to save.
