Love it! If you have a minute please repost with the "store original" box checked. Would really like to see in more detail. Well done.

Thanks. Here it is. Could probably use a little more work, but I got real lucky with minimal post processing. Here's another one from the same day I brightened up a little more as well.

Looks like the Lord painted a pretty nice sunset that evening. I love the variety at sunrise and sunset. Welcome, you'll find a great group of folks here that will help you in any way they can to improve on what are already pretty impressive skills, judging by this shot.

Glad you're here. I've been here less than a month, lurked around for awhile before joining. This is a great nurturing group of people that really know what they're doing and will take the time to help you get to the next level. Merry Christmas!

Glad to have you at the Hog. This is a very supportive group, don't have any trepidation about posting your pics here, you won't be cut to shreds. Just supportive people with constructive criticism when it's called for. A great place to be. Merry Christmas...

Welcome, you'll find a very encouraging group of folks here. It's great to find a forum that's not full of professional haters. I moved up from point and shoot about 6 months ago to a Nikon D5200 and couldn't be happier. A kit with 18-55 and a 55-200 VR lenses is around $1000, a good value for the money for getting back into the game as you are. I think it'll take me quite a while to explore all of the capabilities of my gear. I've got a Nikkor 55-300 VR lens now that is pretty much my "go to" lens most of the time. Just checked my shutter count and I'm at a little over 5000 now and it's worked flawlessly. You can't go wrong with any major brand anymore, seems like Canon and Nikon are kings of the hill, though. And you can keep using your lenses as you move up the food chain over time. Once you pick which camp to be in, I concur that you need to go to a store and feel around for what's right for you and your particular purpose. Merry Christmas and good luck in your search!

I'm a computer guy and have looked at Amazon for you and found it for $799. It has mostly 5 star reviews starting last August, but you should look at the negative review about the HDMI Out not working unless you remove the video card. I help lots of my customers move into Lenovo, Toshiba and ASUS computers, so I'd look at these other 2 brands as well. They all give good bang for the buck and have less "crapware" than others like Dell and HP, so setup is easier for us. Don't think you'll find anything much better at this price point. It should rock for a long time to come. Hope this helps.

What kind of camera? What exactly do you mean by syn? Do you want to do it wirelessly, with a card reader or with the camera attached via the manufacturer's cable? Need more info...

It WAS very calm, as you can see. It kind of surprised me too when I got back to my computer. After all, I'm 61 going on 62 (remember when we counted our age in half years?) and not the steadiest even on dry land where I use a tripod for HDR. A few fish that day, largemouth bass or blacks as they call them in the South. The deeper I get into my obsession with photography, the more my boat has become a platform for pictures and the less fishing gets done. Glad I have an understanding fishing buddy to man the trolling motor for me. There are a couple of great things about being out on the water. The sunrises and sunsets can be magnificent without urban Austin obstructions. Also, you never know what kind of bird or other wildlife you might catch in action. And, it's easy to straighten your photos in Lightroom, since water tends to be level. Thanks everybody, for the kind words.

Thanks guys. It's always easy to get carried away and cook HDR too much. I like it a little understated most of the time and usually try to go for pretty much what my eyes saw and brain remembers. Glad you liked it. I appreciate the encouragement. Merry Christmas!

Autumn arrives much later here. I'm a transplant from the Chicago area and have been in Austin, TX almost 22 years. One thing I've missed is the color explosion in autumn. Everything here is evergreen or just seems to turn brown. We've had a severe drought for over three years and then heavy rains the past couple of months, which has triggered fall colors that I have never witnessed here before. I shot this hand held from the back of my bass boat just after dawn on an overcast morning with my D5200 and a Nikon 18-55 VR lens at 24mm, 3 shots from -2 to +2. The HDR was done in Photomatix Pro and Lightroom 5. Hope you like it.

Thanks everybody, you've been very helpful. After turning the VR off, I was able to get a much better night cityscape than previously had been possible. I never would have known that the VR was actually causing more vibration with the camera mounted on a tripod than otherwise would have been present. Here's the result after minimal work in Lightroom 5. The first is an HDR shot made up of 3 exposures from -2 to +2, the other two are single shots.

I subscribe to the famous quote "F/8 and be there." That tells me to try to be intentional when looking for a good shot (although serendipity comes into play more often than not) and also that it would be a good idea to have a camera with me at all times. While my Samsung Galaxy S3 takes pretty good everyday pictures, you never know when that once in a lifetime scene will appear just around the next bend. I always have my D5200, lenses and tripod with me, covered up in the back of my pickup, since I also subscribe to "out of sight, out of mind" to discourage hot hands. I have a cheap Nikon p&s just in case the big rig fails. That's my 2 cents... Merry Christmas everybody!

If your budget is around $1000, you can get a Nikon D5200 kit with an 18-55 and a 55-200 VR lens bundle that will cover most needs. I've had one for 6 months now and it's 24MP sensor is fabulous at capturing detail in RAW. I've since added a 55-300 Nikkor to extend my zoom capabilities. I concur with others here that it's hard to get a bad DSLR these days at any price point and you should check the size, weight and feel of anything before you buy. I would give the D5200 or D7100 consideration.

Been using a D5200 for about 6 months now and absolutely love it. It may take me years to outgrow it. If you bump up to it or the 7100, your current lenses will still work, so you can invest in some special purpose lenses if you buy the body only. I shoot in RAW and the 24MP sensor means I can crop away in Lightroom (if I didn't take a PERFECT shot! Ha Ha) and still get some amazing closeups of wildlife in action with my 55-300 Nikkor lens. While it's not a full frame camera, it is light and easy to hold in my not really large hands. I'd suggest seeing what each model feels like before committing. Good luck!
