I understand exactly what Grave is saying about some of the so-called, "Art."

I like his colorful photo, "After the Storm."

Thank you, I knew somebody would get it.

Not bad, but I think the camera was exposing for the back lighting. A flash would compensate for that or you could use exposure compensation if you didn't want to fool with the other settings. Just my humble opinion.

I think you're right. The last one was kinda off-the-hip shot. Looked up and there she was. :D

Sometimes I just take a picture just to take one and to practice with the camera.

I knew if I got drafted where I would end up (over the pond) so I joined up USAF, (found myself over the pond anyway) ended up geting out and then spending the next 18 years in the Army Reserves. I wanted to stay AF but also wanted to change jobs, I was told "sign up for another 4 and we'll talk about it". Uh, no thanks. I had 9 years enlisted and the rest as an officer.

Apparently I missed the point because the entry wasn't written very well. I taught writing for forty years, and apparently you weren't very clear as to what you meant. A writer cannot assume that a reader will read his mind.

Sorry, I was in a hurry and didn't get a chance to review like I normally do. I have noticed that one needs a different approach depending on your intended reader.

The one small book I wrote had to have a balance between those readers who were familiar with the topic and those who thought they were. A dilicate balance but it is there.

The other two that are in the works are so far a labor of love. I write for the same reason I take pictures and paint; a stress reducer.

On the other hand the newspaper column I have been asked to write is another animal. There, it has to be short, simple and under 700 words, not an easy task with some subjects.

I've been through Alexandria, nice little town. I'm about 45 miles south.

Take care.

If we have a National Service can we keep the unions out of it?

I like the first two ok, but that last one is, literally, a piece of trash. I believe it would be offensive to most people, especially to people with children who might use your trail. Beyond that, I don't see anything particularly artistic about it. The boss should be more than "not sure" about that photo. It represents the basic actions we try to keep our youth away from.

If I were on your trail with my grandchildren and we saw that photo, they'd be embarrassed, I'd be angry, and we wouldn't be back.
I like the first two ok, but that last one is, lit... (show quote)

I think you missed the point. It wasn't going to be on the trail, it was just akin to what I've seen in art galleries that I also consider as crap and not fit to be on the wall.

I do agree that it isn't what I would consider art but considering what some people say is art it fits. It's as much art as the guy who put a cross in a jar of urine and called it art.

In some circles that would be considered a statement on humanity, for the rest of us it's garbage, which was my point.

The boss and I were having a discussion about art the other day (a local art group wants to put some along our rail/trail). I thought the ones they wanted to put up looked pretty stupid . Since I was headed for the in-laws that weekend (Gibson County, IN) I took some artsy pictures and sent them to her. She wasn't sure about the 3rd one but I've seen worse in art galleries.

Both pictures are good. I prefer to have my landscape shots without the people (except maybe the wife). It just seems to give a better sense of isolation to some areas.

Love those birds. I remember seeing them when I lived in Homestead and spent my weekends in the Everglades camping. I've got a couple of them that live in the riverbottoms behind my house.

Love it! But I can see it driving our BMV nuts (short trip) trying to figure out how to license it, and not charging the right amount.

Perhaps Canada could refuse them entry. I still think at least 2 years of some National Service should be required from everybody (with very few reasons to get out of it allowed. I joined to avoid the draft (1971) My number was coming up and the county hadn't gotten enough enlistments to cover their quota. Retired from it in '94.

My home phone rang yesterday. I looked at the Caller ID and it had my name and home phone number listed as the caller? How can that be? It was a telemarketer.
