And tho John, Paul, George and Ringo are the only English Beatles with whom I am familiar, I believe #2 is in the family Colydiidae. Antenna and head insertion fit.

Thanks Mark, Rick, Bob and Tom. Perhaps I should be more confident.

Yes, you have no need for self depreciation. Those are fine shots. I'd keep an eye on the first springtail. It looks furtive and sneaky.

Bill, this is my Wolf Spider that I have used for several posted views. In the recent post, her fangs are covered with hairs however if you look closely you will see them. The image of the fangs above is a 4X view full frame image. Not cropped but sized for posting.

She is posed well. Looks to be alive. If you do this on bark, the irregularities allow you to fasten the feet to the bark. Then a tiny drop of clear fingernail polish holds foot. This I have done often. Kept carefully in a tight box will last some time for re-use. Bowling night for you. Keep um rollin'.

This was taken at the National Bison Range near Charlo, Montana. I was trying to get a feeling of expansiveness without using a pano. Best if viewed in Download.

Also, I added the sign in the foreground just 'cause I thought it fit... Comments and critiques encouraged.

Planning on visiting my son in Hot Springs in a few months. Would be interesting to see if I could find this spot.
Was in Mousula years back, just whetted my appetite. This time I plan on 'overeating'.
The visitas "bankrupt the English language to describe". T.R., POTUS, on the view from Gold Camp Rd.in Colo Springs. Montana the same. Nicely shot.

[quote=sippyjug104]"Oh Grandma, what big teeth you have", said Little Red Riding Hood. "All the better to eat you with my dear", said the big bad Wolf.....Spider!

Another excellent photo, or photos, since stacked.
Suggestion. A whole body shot before your closeup shots would allow one to understand where on the subject this is. You have verbal clues this time, but as you push the 'x' up, it will not be as clear.
And please, be careful. If you go too far you may by relocated to MICRO section and we will be forced to jump ship from macro😀

Why don't you try yourself with every combination, and see the reason yourself, have fun!

That is best advice. Do investigate, but hands on after will teach much more.

Accd. to Google there were many GS cameras . Westinghouse M2 in 1955. Unknown maker bellows pocket camera in 1929-34. This one an "Imperial Mark XII made by Herbert George co. Came out c. 1956 and took 620 film. One can be had for 20$,+,-. You need two' penlight'(AAA?)batteries.
There is an online G.S. museum, too.

If Herbert George rings a bell, it was also H.G. Wells' name.

This is the same Queen European Hornet that I posted earlier. She has been cleaned in hot soap and water with a bit of alcohol and dried (with my wife's hair drier). I used an artist paint brush to remove stubborn spots of dirt and debris while looking her under a magnifying headset.

Like a movie starlet. Well stacked.
FYI.
These are about 150 years since being introduced in the US. They have expanded in range yearly. They may not be in all states, but eventually they will be in all 48 contiguous states.
A colony of these can wipe out a honeybee hive in a few days. They grab and behead them in midair, SNIP. Then masticate them for the brood. As the head nurse spoke up"leave this one alone".
Nocturnal. One night I was blacklighting for moths. The wasps were beating me to them, so I set to catching them. Quit at FULL QUART jar full.
I believe queen duties are shared, unusual for vespines.

got my mpe-65 back from canon repair shop

I, too, would like to know the problem. If not too nervy on my part, the cost for repair.
Time to start a repair savings acct., I guess. That lens is my largest single investment in gear. But kinda like owning a Porsche rather than Kia.

This is one of the smallest insects that I have attempted to photograph thus far. It's about the size of Roosevelt's ear on a dime. I found it in the woods tightly curled up under a frozen rotting log the other day.

Identifying this critter would be highly appreciated.

Agree with Mark, need more to be sure.
I would go with a first instar millipede. Isopods have well developed eyes. The antenna fit millipedes, and first instar has only three pair of legs, adding them at subsequent sheds.
The usual caveat, been wrong before.
Does beat feeder crickets as subject, tho. Bide a wee, spring is coming(slowly).

I seem to have hit a wall. Cannot get to a level this fine, even tho our equipment is similar.
But, that means something to do tomorrow.
FINE shooting.

Jackm and Bill, thank you for replying. You have covered issues that are helpful.

Mark - many thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know... such an ignorant question I know but my query was whether I moved the camera as well as refocusing...

This is quite a learning curve for me and I appreciate all your help.

I have not, as yet, stacked any images. I was only looking for ways to shoot small insects. I use a variety of lenses, tubes, an MPE65 canon and a group of off the wall ways and techniques to that end.
Then along comes stacking. Sippyjug has mastered the simple way and moved on to precision work of AMAZING detail.
The cost of elaborate gear is beyond me, so I am working on a way to move in precise increments that can be made by most with a bit of handyman skill.
The stacking programs are free, or inexpensive, I understand.
When done, I will publish a plan and material list.
The two best tips, tho, are"practice, and keep at it, it does get easier.

A bit vague on purpose. No info on gear. What is your goal?
Are you using a stack program?. If so, go back and follow sippyjug and his methodology. On True Macro site.
If just shooting, I move the subject. Mounting the specimen on the rail, not the camera on the rail may work. Get the camera on a table mount, eliminate the tripod. Some wood scraps, a 1/4-20 screw and a bit of ingenuity are all you need. This in the 'studio'. In the field a different set of problems.
Those rails are too loose. If on an angle, like to jamb with shift in camera weight.
The gist is, no one way. Shoot, experiment, see what works for you.
This field is open to invention. Going back in macro threads is your best start.
And enjoy it,another world.
