Thank you for your correction. I understand passion in one's hobby; I've written on art and I cringe when I hear some of the things that are called impressionism (particularly so-called art dealers). Anyway,
the little guy was was just sitting there and he didn't look like any gull I had seen before.

Late night post. Sorry for the repeat. I saw this chubby little guy while trying to photo swans. He didn't look like the other seagulls.

This guy was being a bit stubborn in swimming, so I caught this shot with my Canon SL2 (its light and I tend to use it more than my 70D with my Sigma 100-400 which I haven't
had much of a chance to use and ism't light.

I’ve done three. The first was with film for a friend who was unhappy as I was too slow getting back to her. The 2nd was my niece and the Third was for my sister-in-law, both turned out successful. The last I took between 250 and 300 shots, never got a chance to eat anything and the only time I got a drink was putting the unused liquor away and I got a shot of J & B. All were gratis. I won’t do it again, no way, no shape, no how. If the shots are not good it will feature the awakening of bridezilla.

Thanks everyone for your help. Hi Linda - I really like that lens and the 20mm f1.7 which I picked up used.

Sure, I’m not proud. This forum is about sharing and learning. I think my composition was ok, the flaw (or at least one of them) was my not checking my exposure and white balance. Trust me when I walked after the rain today, I checked everything, but my bird buddy was nowhere to be found.

I didn't know my ex-boss was visiting in the UK. Usually his picture is his best profile, which is from the rear.

The shot was done locally at a lake with my Lumix GX85 with the 14-140 lens. The Lumix is new to me as I primarily shoot Canon. It's my first mirrorless and€“ I got a great deal on it, the camera plus two lenses for $600. I purchased this lens separately. I have issues with endurance due to 4 major surgeries, but wanted something light to use when I take my daily walks. A fellow walker pointed out this blue heron for me and it was practically posing for me. I did a series of photos which all came out exposed wrong. The reason for this is:
1. It was the camera's fault. The damn thing doesn't work right.
2. My wife was with me and distracted me. You'd think that after 40+ years together she'd know better!
3. The blue heron created a blue aura that made everything have a blue tint.
4. The heron was singing "Am I blue?"
5. The exposure was messed up by the guy behind the lens; I screwed up.
The answer, unfortunately is (5). I am still not as familiar with the GX85 as I should be. It's really a nice little camera. Every camera has its quirks and none are perfect. As photographers we need to work around these quirks. I wear glasses (blind as a bat) and the eyepiece is less than ideal on this camera. I shoot with my left eye (bad habit, but at 68 probably won'€™t change) and the GX 85 has a touch screen(which you can turn off). Blame it on the schnozzola. It has a nice 3" screen, but I was so excited about catching this bird so close, I really didn't check. What a dummy!

I do shoot raw, so I can probably salvage a good image out of them with a lot of work; but it could have been potentially a great image.

We share our triumphs here; thought I'd should share a failure. We often learn best from them.

Lesson learned on all of these issues. I hit the reset on the camera.
