I am thinking of purchasing either a Nikon dx 18-55 vr and a 55-300 vr or an 18-300 vr. While I like the idea of one lens, I don’t want to sacrifice image quality. I am a hobbiest, not a professional. I mostly use my camera while traveling and take a wide variety of pictures. Any help would be appreciated. I would be pairing the lenses with either a D5600 or a D7500. Thanks

I have the 18-300. I traded an 18-200 for it. They are both great lenses but if I had to do it over I would keep the 18-200. The 18-300 does not give that much more reach and is much larger and heavier.

I asked about a telephoto lens for Nikon d3400 and seemed like a lot of folks told me not to waste my time. Recommendations were to buy a different camera body but that cost a lot of money and money is tight. What does everyone think about the Nikon 7200? And sigma 150-600

The D7200 is an outstanding body. It’s much smarter than I am. That said, why not buy a lens that you can use with a new camera in the future? The 18-200 is outstanding. I prefer it over my 18-300 3.5-5.6. The 70-300 DX is also outstanding. My son has that lens and I have a 70-200 2.8 and at times I prefer to use his (he keeps trying to get me to trade). You can get both of these on eBay for far less than a new body.

We did sunset instead. I highly recommend that you consider that.

We were able to watch weather forecasts to avoid getting up there to have rain; were able to drive up in daylight; had plenty of time to explore and did not have to deal with the cyclists on the way down. There is also a lot more room to view the sunset.

I am thinking about buying Tamron 18-400 Has anyone had any experience with this lens. Is it worth $500.00 plus dollars? Please give some advice as I can buy a new one for $479.00 if I act fast.

I purchased on last year and at the same time bought a used Nikon 18-300 3.5/5.6. The Tamron was lighter and focused faster but the Nikon was smoother and, said Nikon on it. I used both for about a week and chose to keep the Nikon. If the zoom on the Tamron were a little smoother I’d have kept it instead. There was no discernible difference in image quality.

I keep at least one camera (preset for most parameters) on a nearby shelf set to allow me to grab it and go quickly in case of an unexpected photo opportunity. Have mixed feelings about a zoom vs. just a 50mm (FF) or 35mm (Crop). What do you favor?

Rick, my lens does exactly the same thing. What do you think it will take to fix?

This is a failure in the image stabilizer. It could be either a damaged ribbon cable that connects the stabilizer unit to the main circuit board or it could be a defective stabilizer.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the lens for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

The first three categories are sad, but legal and in the case of veterans, a choice made by themselves. The last category is illegal governmental over-reach. That's not media hypocrisy. The media cannot do anything about the first three categories. But they can sure blow the whistle on the last one. And yes, this discussion is in the wrong place. But as long as it is here, the question must be answered.

How is the last category illegal? Show me a single example, here or anywhere in the world that children are allowed to go to jail with their parent.
