I came across a CD recently which had several folders of old picture files. It looks like I burned these files in 2003. At the time I was using Windows computers running XP Professional. When I use Windows 10 file explorer, it shows the folders on the disc, however, when I open the folders no files are found, but checking the properties shows that portion indeed has items within them. The properties also indicate a CDFS file system used. I no longer have the original computers. Is there any chance for me to recover these files?

I like it but my humour is definitely not main stream. It would certainly detract from the bare white wall!

The effect is named after Michael Orton. A visit to his web-site may be helpful.

I, too, love #2. Just love the silhouette, and the shades of black and white. Beautiful!

Were you able to experience the local rauch bier [smok’ed beer]? We did in 1985, my niece said it tasted like tree bark... But, all-in-all, the Czech Beer we had in 1983 was worse, it tasted like coal...

Thank you so much for this link. I was only able to make it through the first 50 pages. I wish they would let you download more than 12 thumbnails at a time. Your submission is one of the better I’ve seen. Most of my favorite pictures of National Parks, etc. have been lost, unfortunately, to the dreaded “Crypto-Locker” virus. However, some of my most memorable still reside in my head... I didn’t have my camera with me. We were staying at Roosevelt Lodge in Yellowstone, mid-October. After dinner, I took two of our school age children out to the car to get their school work. As we returned, we went up towards Old Faithful. Now, imagine a cool, crisp evening with a full moon. Steam was coming from the warm water. When Old Faithful erupted, both it and the steam were backlit by the full moon. Beautiful! But no camera...

And yes, that is one of the most beautiful pictures I viewed!

Well, I start again... In the early 1990's when the internet was becoming a thing, due to necessity of computer systems, I had access to the Internet, thankfully I had an office whose door closed. In addition to the administrative tasks, I found time to wander...

I am of Slavic Heritage, but it only kindled a curiosity, and a challenge to seek what I could get away with. After the usual forays into the Internet world I became focused. I found both Czech and Slovak art sites with which I could identify. They banned "beer" from searches, but not "Pivo".

Googling " Russian Photography" and "Russian Art" I found many sites displaying artwork that I loved. If only, I had copied them, but thinking I could always later look them up. Twenty years later... No I couldn't.

But, while we had Ansel Adams, Steichen, et. al., We also had these Russian Photographers who captured Russian life before and after the 1917 Revolution. Boris Ignatowicz, Leonid Shokin, Alexander Grinberg, et. al.

Google Russian Paintings and Russian Photography and see what wonders there are.

I had used a couple of 8x compacts for years. I, too, live in MN and use them mostly for birdwatching. When my daughter became interested in birdwatching, her boyfriend bought her a pair of Bushnell H2O 10x42. I've traded mine for these glasses. They are very light, waterproof, and easy to use -- I love them. You can pick them up for $100-$125, and for general use they can't be beat.

I remember, some years ago, driving to work in the morning and seeing similar sights. Shafts of the newly rising Sun... Beautiful! I never thought I could capture the moment. But it has been preserved among my gray cells. Thank you for sharing...
