Reading others comments makes me think this discussion must be similar to what goes on between realists and impressionists in the art world. Imagine how boring life would be if we all thought exactly the same things in exactly the same way.

Regarding these images, #1 is a little too SOOC for me. As a minimum I think it would benefit from a boost in contrast. I find the subject interesting and like the composition, but the flat lighting tends to obscure the detail that obviously is there. So in this case, I vote for #2. Nice job.

If you are satisfied with a point and shoot then #1 is it but if you see the camera as an artistic tool then it’s #2.Myself I like the artistic route.

That's it in a nutshell Oldeio! Thanks for commenting and voting! It's always nice to see a new visitor!

What a wonderful shot of old and reclaimed wood. I enjoy the camera's eye as to what the wood actually looks like. Your processed version is what a woodworker may try to bring out in the wood as he would envision it. Mahalo for sharing.

Thank you for your critique JoAnneK01! Much appreciated and Mahalo to you as well!

It is possible that photographers with more experience care enough to be critical.

Ego gratification can be reinforced by those with a similar weakness, much like children rejecting a fathers advise and realizing years later the value of his wisdom.

If you want to succeed, especially in photography try to absorb with an open mind. A pat on the back is worth far less than a whisper in the ear...

Let’s put it this way .... if the pre- post was framed and hung on a wall...people might say ..huh ..?

Frame the post edited ..., well.., where can I buy a copy ...abstract art rendition of a lifeless photo .. brought to life ...

It’s up to the viewers taste .., and we all have different tastes .., that’s ok ..

I agree with your assessment. Today the art of photography had shifted from good photography taking to how well you know how to edit. The skill of photographing is becoming a lost art. Skill...Expertise...Art ! Get right by photographing it right not editing it to look right.
