Wow, that is a pretty C**** looking Tri-X super-8 film. The music was far better than the "film". I can imagine disgracing a sheet of 4x5" or Cassette of 135 Tri-x like that.
I've know of a lot of seemingly strange chemicals or concoctions that might be used as a film developers. Pretty much anything with mild "Redox" Reduction - Oxidation potential with the Silver Halides in the film. Yes, even Ascorbic Acid. Beer seems to have too much suspended solid debris in it to make clean negatives.
What's the point? They claim it's not a great developer and just another flavored beer. You can only do one or the other with it, not both. Great product for the idiots who will buy it.
Folgers instant coffee.... Long time process called Caffenol. Many web sites and large following. I've done it off and on for years.
Polluted river water... in fact there is a large well known river in Russia noted for this process and many followers of the process. How about Lake Ontario?
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1990-11-13-wr-4533-story.htmlThis is nothing new. The caffenol process uses cheap instant coffee, vitamin C, and washing soda and precise temperature control. Can even be used in developing print enlargements.
Where have all you people been?
