Looking for a travel tripod that is good and study and able to hod a Nikon 800 with a. Nikon telephoto lens. Do not care if it is a little. Heavy as long as it is compact.

Manfroto 190 series are excellent travel tripods.
Fold small yet easily handles a 7D with a heavy 100-400mm fully extended.
Also takes you flat to the ground if needed.
Fits in a small suitcase or small over the shoulder bag to take with you everywhere. Light but sturdy and tall enough for a 6' person like me to use
Finally does not break the bank like many others of similar quality and flexibility.

This is the most stabil/sturdy for the compact size IMO....collapses to 19 1/2" and 60+ inch height - NICE ball head too !

If travel tripods similar to the MeFOTO are not compact enough, I suggest looking at smaller & cheaper (<$40) tripods like the Neewer CK30. There are other brands that look identical (e.g. ZoMei CK-30). The ballhead is adaquate for a DSLR and normal lens. I replace the included head with a higher-quality head and use it with a Nikon DSLR and Sigma 150-600m lens.

The pink one is available for $69. It will probably remain available for some time.

Take a look at the Mefoto Global Traveler. Well made, supports up to 26 lbs, folds up to sit nicely into a 22" (carry on) roller. During a three month trip in Austraila and New Zealand, I used it viritually every other day to support my Nikon D4 and 70-200 2.8. Lots of rain, lots of wind, not a problem. Rock solid.

I was flying to Florida with just carryon and while packing realized I couldn’t fit my tripod. I found this and had it shipped to the address I was heading to. It was there by the time I arrived the next day. When folded it’s less than 13” and I can strap it my camera bag and it’s part of my carryon “item”. With my D7200 and the Tamron 150-600 it was rock solid.
