A beautiful place Richard. I like the "Leading Cats" in the first shot, but that second one is my favorite. All nicely done.

Thanks very much.

Another beautiful Alpine town built on the side of a mountain and the edge of a lake (Hallstattersee) is Hallstat. It is also in the "Sound of Music" country about 40 km from Salzburg. Beautiful drive. Oustanding scenery. Waterfall near the town center with a quaint, small town square and fountain and wonderful apple strudel!

did you go on a Salt Mine tour and a tour of the skull-writing grotto (historical geneology library Hallstat-style) in back of the chapel on the hill?

No we did't, the brine pipeline track started at the salt mine entrance.
Sometimes there is a never enough time especially when you have a fair walk in front of you.

As part of our 2006 vacation we were fortunate to have 4 nights based at Abersee, on the southern side of Wolfgangsee, Austria.
Think "Sound of music" country. We were there early october.
Aberssee, a very small community is about a 40m local bus trip from Salzburg.
Unfortunately we got off the bus at at St Gilgen (Mozarts mums birthplace) which meant we had to catch two ferries, and a short walk to find our guest house. There was also a fair bit of confusion and getting a bit lost (IE:stress).

This part of our vacation was a walking holiday where we would set off each day and walk about 14km (9miles) and make our way back to "home", usually by ferry.
We were supplied with a back pack, maps and trail guides, and a cut lunch for each days walk.

Some pics from Abersee
Thanks for looking and more to come.

My Mother lived very close to there. Sometimes what I miss most is the Stiegl, an outstanding beer that is on par with a couple brews in the Czech Republic. They best the Germans. I don't know if anyone there gave you the true story of the von Trapp family "escaping" from Salzburg. The movie embellished it. Actually, they, like many others, took the train.
