My only place was a country club which a bride said was approved. Mid shoot we were aggressively booted out. Then she was mad at me for "ruining " her pictures. I should have verified the "permission. " Lesson learned.

The casino at the (then new) MGM Grand in Reno, Nv. I was taking some photos all around the place, i wandered into the casino floor and was informed it was against the law to shoot in the casino, people were scared of using for blackmail. Anyway, I went to the other side and continued to try and get some photos. it was then a guard tapped me on the shoulder and showed me where the door was. I was younger and didn't realize at the time, they were following me on the security cams. Live and learn!

Mine was Hubbell Trading Post. Didin't read the sign but when I got the photo developed, The sign was right in the middle of the picture. They allow photos to be taken but not with flash. I just walked in and started to " flashing away ". They were quite nice about it but did ask me not to use the flash anymore.

In a similar vein, the Detroit red-wings will not allow a camera with a lens greater than 80mm, and they check each camera and lens. So I took an 80mm lens, but I also put a 2X rear extender on it. The guy checked it, and the lens said “80mm” that was O.K..... I guess that I could have been Dis-allowed, Eh??RJM

Westminster Abby. I did manage a shot of Charles Darwin's grave though. St. Paul's had a similar policy but they were far more tolerant.

More than a few years ago, I was thrown out of a Stray Cats concert. Well I was told they could take my camera and stay or I could leave with it. Of course I left with it.

Below deck tour of the Intrepid Museum (WW2 aircraft carrier in NYC). No cameras or cell phones permitted. Can 76 year old naval technology still be classified?

Panama City in a Casino....being all of about 23-24 years old, (quite a few years ago 😆) I took a picture of my girl friend, and about 4 plain clothes men surrounded me and scared the “—-“ outta me. I did not speak the language, but, they asked me for my camera, which I gave them, they took the film out, and gave me back my camera. Had no idea that cameras are NEVER allowed in a casino. No, I did not win any money...

Not long ago, I was told to leave the confines of the NSA data collection center in Utah. I did manage to get one shot.

I guess I either don't follow directions or simply don't read them. I have been asked to refrain from photography on five occasions. The FDR Home in Hyde Park, NY - my flash got me into trouble there. Westminster Abbey in London - no photography allowed. St. Paul's Church in London - again the flash gave me away. My granddaughter's ballet recital - they wanted to sell their own video. The security area in the Atlanta airport - that almost got ugly.

Not being conversant on the wavelength make-up of our electronic flashes, what wavelength(s) that they produce would be so damaging to these historical documents? I’m sure they are brought out into artificial light for study periodically and is that light filtered to reduce/eliminate harmful wavelengths? And are the historical documents in the U.S. Archives on display under filtered glass that restricts harmful wavelengths? Or are all historical documents on display actually replicas?
