Found this - interesting rules the Alamo posts - you are not allowed to take pic's of it, but they can of you - for their use - no compensation...

Rules of Reverence

The Alamo has a unique set of rules befitting its status as the Shrine of Texas Liberty and hallowed ground. Please read the rules before entering the Alamo to ensure a respectful and pleasant visit.

Guests, please remove your hats inside the historic Church
No open food or drinks are allowed inside the Church, Long Barracks, or Annex
No camera or cell phone use permitted inside the historic structures.
No pets (Service animals allowed in accordance with the ADA)
No obscene or offensive language on clothing
No jogging, bicycles, skateboards, hoverboards or drones
No alcohol, smoking, vaping or other use of tobacco products
No professional photography or videography (Prior coordination required)
No unauthorized firearms (Concealed and open carry allowed with permit only)
No soliciting, disruptive or disrespectful behavior

A visit to the Alamo and/or attendance at events is an agreement by the participant and/or the parent of guardian to allow the Alamo to photograph and/or film participants without compensation for possible use in digital/print marketing and publicity efforts. Please contact the Alamo’s marketing director at 210-225-1391 with questions or requests to exempt your image from potential promotional use.

The Sistine Chapel (the best of places, the worst of places. and, as Muhammad Ali would have said, "The onliest of places").

Not been thrown out from a best place, yet.

Been told to cease and desist from one place. This was at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. They don't allow flash photography. Took a photo of Van Gogh's painting of his old pair of shoes with flash. The anti-flash police approached and reminded me of the no-flash photography rule and the next time means, "You're out of here." (Well, not exactly in those words but close.) Needless to say, I immediately clicked the auto-flash to off. I had my point and shoot Panasonic Lumix zs50 at that time which if I may say, took decent photos even without flash.

Old Colonial Williamsburg Allows you to take photos in most all the buildings but one. It was a mansion. I hung back till the guide took the group into the next room to get my shot. Its only for my own enjoyment. I wouldn't publish those photos.

Several years ago at the National Archives in D.C., a colleague in our group took a picture and accidentally used her flash. At that time, they had a strict policy against flash photography to protect the integrity of the original historic documents (Including the Declaration of Independence) from being degraded due to light exposure. However, non-flash photography was permitted. A security officer gruffly said to her"put your camera away now, or I will have to take it and you will not get it back." As you can imagine, my colleague was quite embarrassed by the incident. In subsequent visits to the Archives, I have noticed that the policy has been updated, NO Photography of any kind is allowed in the Historic Documents Room, in order to prevent such incidents of accidental flash!

The only time / place for me was a small fast food shop in Melbourne, Australia. The shop owner was a Moslem, who had a thing about his religion's bans on making graven images. He interpreted that to forbid photographs. I hadn't seen any "no photos" signs around, so I started shooting to record his shop's interior. He objected, and explained, and I stopped shooting, and apologized. Since then, I ask before shooting in such places.

The closest I came was in the local lake park where a preschool teacher was there with her charges. I told her I would take care to keep the kids out of my photos.

One of my old Greek professors is involved in a project to digitally photograph all of early pieces of early New Testament manuscripts for preservation purposes. They use Nikon equipment and I'm sure very fast lenses. Certainly no flash!!

Went to the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi and was really looking forward to capturing some images, having seen so many cool pictures of it online.

Got there and was told I couldn't bring my DSLR into the temple (and would have to check it into a chaotic looking coat checkin service: wasn't really up for risking my D500 and a couple thousand dollars worth of lenses at coat check): plus long lines and bunch of other places to visit on our itinerary, so we ended up taking one pic from the parking lot and then moved on to the India Gate.

Me too the Alamo. I was told I was a professional photographer because of the look of my camera. To make a long story short, I was finally allowed to take some pictures.
