Should make a pretty good head & shoulders portrait lens for your D3400.

Congratulations on your new lens.
I love to shoot with my 50mm f/1.8 and it is the lens I use most often.
That's why I got it. Niece wants me to do portraits of her kids in june

50mm for portraits other than full length will have right in your subjects face, I would suggest 90mm-100mm.
I usually use a Nikkor 24-120 - f4 dx on a Nikon D7100.

50mm on a crop camera is a good portrait length, I think that he probably wanted a fast lens for the background quality, personally I use an 85/1.2 for portraits, everybody has their own favorite way of doing things.
Have fun. I remember when a 50mm came standard with every SLR, and most people shot with that exclusively.

Surely you mean a 50mm
ON a full-frame...
A 50 on the OP’s DX camera has the equivalent angle of view of a 75 on FF. On a micro 4/3, it’s like a 100.

Should have spent your money on a Quality "Nifty Fifty" Nikon 1.8g lens, much better Glass and will produce much better images. You could get a new one at a decent price or a used or Refurbished 50mm at a good price too.

Actually the Yongnuo is only about $70 new, its performance may not be quite as good as an OEM lens but from what I understand it is acceptable.
The equivalent for a nifty 50 1.8 on your crop frame camera is a nifty Nikon 35 1.8 like I have for my D7000. Your 50 will work like a 75.
I have a Canon EOS Rebel T7i (APS-C), and seek to find a Canon-compatible "Nifty Fifty" type lens for it. Crop factor is 1.6. Would it be an 80mm prime lens (EF) or a 30mm prime (EF) that would fit, making an equivalent for a 50mm EF-S lens for Canon? Or would a 50mm EF do the job, though it would be a little different than a 50mm on an EF body. If I am going to spend a little money to get one, since so many praise it so much, I do not want to waste my money getting the wrong one. Thanks.

The Canon 50mm f/1.8 is supposed to be pretty good, the 1.4 can be purchased used for just over $200 in excellent condition, in fact there is one currently advertised on this site for $209. If I were purchasing a lens for a crop camera in that range I would be considering either the 50/1.4 or the 35mm f/2 IS which is a bit pricey. You might also consider the 40/2.8 pancake but that lens is not going to give you the subject isolation that the faster lenses will.

I need a 500mm zoom for Nikon D3200. Are there other brands that I can use with an adapter? I’m also fine with manual focus.
Also what are extenders as in making a lens like a 200mm zoom a lot farther?
