For those of you who carry two cameras, are both the same model or do you have two different models and why for either answer?

One FX and one DX... DX for macro & tele uses, FX for everything else...

For photography trips I usually take 4, sometimes more. Nikon F or F5, Nikon D850, Nikon D800, Hasselblad 500C, Graphic View II. The Graphic is the most used.

I carry d810 AND D7200. I usually have a 16-35 on the d810 and a 28-300 on the d7200. Gives me some nice choices.

I carry a full frame and a cropped frame. The full frame is for landscape, and the cropped frame is for wildlife. It has worked out well for me, as I do not need to change lenses when going from landscape to wildlife, it is tough to get a quick shot of a bird or other wildlife when you need to change the lens in order to get the reach needed for a good shot.

They are just about the same (I have a 5D M II as a back-up to a 5D M III) just because it is a seamless transition when switching from one camera over to the other! When shooting film, both my cameras are the EOS 1v. Its only when shooting MF that my cameras are different, but I still carry two!

One is for wide angle, the other is for telephoto.

...And I have both a FX and a DX, so this makes sense. I shoot more than nature/wildlife too - portraits - and would not have a need for my long zoom, but sometimes will use a second lens. Thanks for the ideas.

Yes, both the same model - one has a "standard" zoom, and the other a tele zoom.

I don't have any DSLRs. Instead I bought into the Panasonic mirrorless micro four thirds (M4/3) system.

My primary "larger" camera is a Panasonic GX8 and I have a long reach zoom lens for it. My secondary camera is a Panasonic Lumix LX100 compact. The two give me an equivalent field of view equal to about 24mm to 800mm with a gap between 100 and 200. Total weight is only about 5 pounds.

Alternately I will go "heavy" with the GX8 and 28 to 280 (equivalent field of view) single lens or "light" with LX100 and its 24 to 75 (equivalent field of view).

I've never, ever seen anyone else equipped they way I am! Even with a tripod I can put it all in small bag under 8 pounds and cover landscapes to wildlife.

I will take 2, a Canon DSLR and a Sony video camera. Although the Canon does video the Sony does it better, even though it's older. With the Sony I can use either the display screen (which is a pain in the a$$) or the eye-level viewfinder. With the Canon it's the crappy display screen only. The Sony will auto focus while recording, the Canon won't. Yes, I know newer Canons can focus while recording. The Sony records to a built-in hard drive, the Canon to an SD card. However, the Canon will do individual photos better than the Sony.

For my trip to the local pond, the D810 with the Nikon 200-500 goes with me for wildlife. Also take my D750 with a 70-200 or 24-70 for dragonflies and other creatures. By doing so there is no need to change lenses or camera settings so shots can be grabbed quickly. A lot depends on the subject that I want to shoot and the location. Why two different models? Simply because those are what I own.

Two cameras work for me. I will usually go to the Topcon's first. The DM (72 series) set up with a 5.8cm f1:1.4 RE auto and my old faithful RE Super (46 series) set up with a Topcon Zoom, 87-205mm f4.7 or Telephoto from 135mm to 500mm. I have an RE-2 (56 series) which I will sometimes set up with a long lens
just for the fun of having it on the ready. I will often use several cameras set up on a multi camera mounting bar atop a tripod. This way I am ready for that chance shot of some wildlife. This set up is also used for my Nikon F and Nikkormat when they are the cameras of the day. i can not forget that when the mood changes and I pull out the range finders I go to the Leica IIIc w/ Summitar 5cm f1.2 and Leotax w/ Simlar 5cm f1.5. Telephoto shots require the Visoflex series 1 w/Telyt 20cm f4.5 or 40cm f4.5. It is fun to change things up at random. David C
Note: I am also including the Canon 40D on some photo outings so I can get used to it. All these are considered classic cameras by most but they have been in my care/use for many years. Now I have get the film from Fall/Winter 2018 developed, and see how I did. The bears are waking up should be a fun Spring.

I have an old Canon 450D which tends to live in the car (£50 value) and Sony so that I can use live view and extended focus in the EVF. Half my gear fits the Canon and Half fits the Sony....So I usually need to think about the shots before I leave the car !
I also have access to a Fuji P and S that my wife uses. This gets taken to family parties so that everyone can 'play'. Usually have a good laugh over what people 'take'...

I keep looking at the value of the old Canon 5's just to see if I should trade up....maybe one day (the Sony trade up would be a lot more)

have fun

All good information. Thanks to everyone for your perspectives. I wanted to see if there was some compelling reason to have the same body as a way to avoid upgrading both at the same time. Buying one camera at a time is certainly less expensive. I think I will continue with my D750 and D300s for a while. Thanks again!!
