When I started my computer this morning, it finished the Windows update. It took a long time, with several restarts, no Internet connection, and a missing email account. It seems to be okay now, but be prepared.

Have no idea how long the update took. It happened sometime during the night. Computer slow to boot this morning, but all is well now. Wonders of modern technology! (Now if the computer would just take over the house work, that would be wonderful.)

Which version 7, or 10?

I've had the same issue for a few months now...every time I install an update I lose internet connection to my PC..it's at my modem but will just not link to my Desktop PC. I'm using 7. I've never had a problem in all the years of using diferent versions of 7 or any other version. Each time it takes me ages to do restores, etc to get connected. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem...I've turned off Windows updates until they come up with a reason/solution...as usual they don't have an Email address so we can talk to them...has anyone got a link to anywhere I can get proper help, I really want to have this problem resolved..?
Cheers,
Ron.

There is no answer citizen. They give you what you get.
Myself, I get tired of every update changing every one of my file associations. No, I don't want "Edge" as my .pdf program! etc. And all my desktop icons get auto arranged by alphabetical order on the left. And I have to run "Driver Booster" again to reset drivers.

Mine updated about 2 weeks ago. Many programs are messed up. Haven't found anything missing, though.

My 7 year old desktop runs almost 24/7. It updates overnight and has never messed up any of my programs or moved anything.
My laptops are a different story as they only get used occasionally. If I plan on doing a presentation or needing one for storm chasing, I make sure to check it hours ahead to make sure it is updated before I want it to do any serious work. I have never noticed anything moving or messed up.

Mine installed fine, and was quicker than most times.

I have another issue with upgrades, though. Last week, before this latest update was done, I was copying my system for its off-site backup. I came across a folder, in the windows file hierarchy, called "Candy Crush" something or other. Now, I have never played this game, and I do not download games from the internet. The system won't let me delete this folder - or even see what is in it! It is owned by "trusted installer", and I have no access to it at all.

My system is scanned regularly for malware, so I don't think that is an issue. What I don't understand is why Micro$oft would install something like this on my PC? This is on top of my constant frustration that anything on *my* computer should be unavailable for my access!

Grrr...

The last time mine updated it forgot my machine had a DVD drive and lost a few older programs. Of course without the DVD drive I couldn't reload them.

I feel your pain. Every update and I'm going through new stuff and tossing it out, and some don't want to leave, will fight for their right to annoy us. And did I mention Edge, wish I could dump that sucker!!

I fight the auto-update deal constantly, as I never want an update until I hear about the issues with each one. I go throught the programs and apps and shut off or remove the stuff I don't want, or didn't want in the first place.
