Anybody know anything about this? How well it may work?
Just got it in a email from B&H. Pretty interesting.
You can get more info about ordering and what film cameras the backs are available for on their site.
Always wished I could shoot with my SLRs digitally.

Been around for a while and never really caught on, Leica did a similar thing about 20 years back and it too, was a no go!

$299+$69=$368 Do you know how much film I could purchase for that amount of money? Not worth it to me. I'll bet not a lot of people are going to be jumping on this one. I'll stick with film for my film cameras.

Well thaz an extremely nontricky question !

Acoarst I know. Everybody knows. Start with
$370 and 30 rolls later it's game-over. I did
include C-41 proc, NO prints, self scanned. I
ran all my figgers past an Esteemed Rocket
Scientist, just to double check ;-)

OTOH, I did visit their site. Their device is a
definite novelty, not for normal uses. So, for
your $370, the 30 rolls of film is prolly more
and better photographic results than you are
gonna get from this chatzke before you ebay
it or mothball it !

Wonder how soon these toys will turn up on
ebay describes as "low mileage" "little use" ?

I dunno. What's the big deal?
I have a goodly amount of film cameras around here. Different makes, models, years. On the shelf next to me are 2 Iskras, a Nikon FM and a Zenit. I live in SoCal, so add tax. For $400 *each* I'd have the ability to natively use last century's lenses with a fugly 8mp sensor apparatus ...
*OR* I could buy a 5D II 20mp camera and a fistful of lens adapters.
Same $400 for a 20mp version ... I might be kinda interested.

The I'm back sensor is 16mp. It can record jpg or raw and can do video also.

It's actually about 158 rolls. For every 50 there's an additional $18 for developer and a few cents for fixer. So, that'll drop the number of rolls a bit. They can keep the gimmick and I'll stick with film.

Before anyone gets too excited:

"I’m Back was created with the intention of reusing the old analog in a digital way, but maintaining a “retro” aspect in the photos thanks to the focusing screen. It is not intended to have the quality of a digital camera of last generation, therefore, it is not an accessory to be at par with a digital or even an analog..."

That doesn't mean it might not be something fun to play with.

I saw claim to have 16MP yet the sample images are very poor quality.

"I'm Back" uses a 1/2.3" sensor. That's gives you a 5.6 crop factor. You'll have a very different experience using "I'm Back" than you originally had with 35 mm film.

And they want to sell it for around $400? I much rather pay that for the Nikon D3400.

Yeah, me too. Also. But the flange distance for Nikons is too big for most adapters.
Canon's short enough to make adapters usable.
A M39 or M42 adapter on a Nikon will give you maybe~ 10 to 20 feet to focus; but on a Canon they work well. Pop that ol Leica lens on and go for it. And it's a Canon- @ $250 to $350 on fleabay. A little goop, a little paint, make it look like a classic Practika

The blurbs I saw referenced an 8mp working model, with 16mp "coming soon". I could make a Holga digital and get similar results to what they displayed.
I can wait.

Roll and 35mm film is still quite affordable and processing is relatively cheap (Under ten bucks a roll, and $15 for a high quality scan). The "I'm Back" is both too small, and too low in pixels to be anything more than a toy, in my opinion. With some recent gear acquisitions, I've reacquired my love of film, and shoot and scan is the way to go for film gear. I'm now trying to keep a hand in the film game as well as my DSLRs. I'm still dreaming of a proper digital back to use on my press and view camera, but I'll stick to using the 120 back on them for now.

Of course with the uninterrupted nasty weather and my heavy work schedule, I'm feeling lucky to find the time and circumstances to shoot at all. Fortunately this weekend looks very nice.

If you have old film gear, pull it out and think spring. It's (Spring) bound to be here sooner or later.

You all need to look at some of the photos taken with the latest model. They don't look bad.
The one on B&H now is a new and improved model. It has wi-fi capability and a 2" LCD touch screen on the back.
