Yeah, we all get 'em, nuisance calls...trying to sell you something. Well, there's NOMOROBO, and other software, and just hanging up. But if you want to have some fun, try some of Tom Mabe's hilarious tactics, with many such on YouTube. Here's a good starting point:

I do not answer any call from any number I do not recognize.

Unfortunately, NOMOROBO is not available in all areas. I can't get it where I live. I usually let the answering machine pick up all calls unless I am totally bored and what to play around with the caller. I will answer the phone in a different language and let the caller freak out while he continually asks "is there anyone there that speaks English"

Here's the thing -if you answer the phone it just confirms that the number is good. The latest tactic the last few days have been calls apparently from myself even from my own number. Lots of them. I must have gotten on someone's list! Hope they're not using my name to spoof other people!

Once I worked summer school as the Dean of Discipline at a large high school. There were gang members on campus who sold drugs by appointment, gave out the number to call one of the pay phones by the student cafeteria. (Pay phones, remember those? ) They answered made the deal and arranged pickup at the curb or in the park next to the school.

The campus police officer and I took turns standing by the phones and we answered when one rang. 4 phones, we rotated answers
1. LAPD juvenile division, may I help you?
2. LA Sheriff's Juvenile Narcotics Squad to whom may I direct your call?

After a few days those phones stopped ringing and a couple of the gang members told us we were A.. Hol.. and might get them jumped. Some of the others and the majority of the students thought it was funny.

These people are trying to earn a living, and I don't want to waste my time playing games with them. I have a CPR 10000 that blocks telemarketing calls.

Like the man says if you don't recognize the number just hang up. if it is important enough they can leave a message.

Now, if you were to do something like that, the gang member would probably sue the school, the LAPD and you for their injuries, loss of income, and emotional distress. And they would probably win!!

Me too, on cell, and for landline my old answering machine with the robot voice is perfect for taking their calls. 95% will not leave a message. The robot voice never gets mad, I wonder if their robots get mad when they find they have called another robot?

That is my policy too.
If the call is of any importance they can leave a voice mail.

Strange how some posts get responses that don't match the OPs initial intent, however subtle that may be. My intent was not to have a discussion of nuisance calls, but to get some belly-lafs from y'all after watching this video. Let's try again, here's the video, then you can be LYAO (Laughing Your A$$ Off).

I got one of those calls from “Weendows” last night telling me that there was a problem with my computer. I told the guy that I didn’t have “Weendows”. I told him that I developed my own OS called Digitally Operated Open Reiteration System. I call it DOORS. I explained that it uses a special processor that I built called Wide Universal Design. I told him that I simply called it a WUD chip. I further explained that I could open several DOORS at once due to a graphic device called High Intensity Neutron Graphic Engine and that I have three of them installed. I told him that I refer to them as HINGES. They guy hung up on me!

I was told this on Friday by my hearing technician. Cannot validate. When phone rings, answer but do not say a word, then press 9. Supposedly that puts that number on a no call list.
