I have used B&H’s Watson brand in Nikon for years. Some have occasionally failed to hold a charge. I have 2 Nikon and one Watson battery currently. If I had a battery leak, I would throw it away if on vacation or take it to the chemical drop at our local dump. I would never mail it in a million years due to safety issues and would give the Nikon repair rep a kind earful if they asked me to send it with the camera.

In my electronics course, we tore apart and studied batteries. Our conclusion, stay away from Ray-O-Vacs and Duracell’s.

Interesting.

Rab-eye, I have used 'Duracell Only' since the film days. They stand behind their product! I had a Sunpak D511 and one the batteries went bad, and killed my 511, I called Duracell, they had me send the unit to them and in a short time I had a check for the replacement value, over $300. I have had over the years several incidencs of a failure and they have always, always taken care of me. If its not original, its duracell!
You won't be sorry!

Good to know. Thanks.

I had a $500.00 ring flash for my intra oral photos for my dental practice. I retired and left duracell batteries in flash only 5 months. They leaked and ruined flash. $500 dollars. Flash was a modified canon flash done by well known company. They told me that they see it a lot from duracell. Now duracell sells more batteties so expect mire isdues. Btw flash was in my house so not climate issue.
I think at one time they would replace an electronic deviCE but no more

I have used Duracell batteries in multiple electronic devices over the last 3 decades or more. I have used them exclusively in some inexpensive digital cameras and related equipment I own and have never had a problem with them of any kind over the years. No leakage, no swelling, no fires or explosions. I guess I have been very lucky.

I don't have good luck with third party battery. I bought a demo Nikon Coolpix 5000 in 2004. The camera was introduced in 2001 so it was on the dealer shelf as demo for a few years. The battery didn't last very long but OK so I decided to buy another battery. At the local Fry's they didn't have Nikon battery so I bought a third party one and I don't remember which brand. The new battery is a lot worst than the several years old Nikon battery.

Ben, quite honestly, I stick with OEM batteries. The only reason is if for some weird reason something happens to a battery and the camera needs repair as a result, the company can't come back with, the non-OEM battery is the cause and we have to charge you some outrageous amount for the repair. I'd just as soon not risk that scenario.

I too stay with OEM for pretty much the same reasons. IMHO the battery life also seems to be better with OEM.

The camera manufacturer doesn't make their batteries. They contract with a 3rd party battery manufacturer. The key is to find a battery that has the same specs as the OEM one.

I inherited my Father in Law's ( a retired Dentist)Nikon camera, Lester Dine 105 macro lens & Lester Dine ring light about 12 years ago. he too had left batteries in the flash and it was toast. I have since gotten several more lenses & ring lights and all have worked just fine. I'd place the Dine units up there with OEM in terms of capability...

Specs doesn't mean a thing.

I generally stick to batteries from the camera manufacturer. However, I chanced across a link online to a Duracell battery that is 50% the cost of the manufacturer's battery for one of my cameras. With Duracell being a name brand, I wonder if it’s worth spending the extra money on OEM? Does anyone have any experience with Duracell brand batteries made for cameras, or in general just have thoughts to share?

Thanks!

Rab-Eye, Most of the "OEM" batteries are not truly OEM's, but rather purchased by the OEM from some manufacturer with the OEM's name and label on it. Generally if the original camera is a quality manufacturer, the maker will be using the same specs. So you can buy an equal battery from some third party--Amazon, Costco, B & H, etc-- with little concern and at a much lower cost. Most of the "knock-off" sellers offer the same guarantee. The trick to longer battery life is not to let them sit in the closet and self discharge. You should and re-charge when they get to the half charge point. Memory used to be a problem with the old ni-cads, but the new technology has eliminated that problem.

I shoot with a Canon 60D that I bought in July 2013. It came with one Canon battery, and I bought one knockoff spare. In use I can't tell which is in the camera.
