The Commerce Department said Wednesday that — despite more than two years of President Trump’s “America First” policies — the United States last year posted a $891.2 billion merchandise trade deficit, the largest in the nation’s 243-year history.

“Macroeconomics end up ruling. You can’t wish it away. You can’t tariff it away,” said William Reinsch, a former Commerce Department official now at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

People that still think Trump knows ANYTHING about business or trade are simply brain dead zombies.

Your economy is not doing well and the Canadian dollar is pretty low. I just did an exchange and it was in my favor by quite a lot.

Not that any of you care but your tourism from Canada is way down and it is not just because of our lower dollar and or economy. You want us down there about as much as we want you up here.

LOL.... Crackers now thinks he speaks for all of Canada... Here in Florida we still see those Canadian license plates on many cars driving around, I wonder why that is.... Maybe it is just crackers who is sitting this one out. I will say, for the most part Canadian drivers get a 10 from me, they are cautious, courteous and best of all they know enough to get the heck out of the passing lane which is more than I can say for our fascist liberal youth down here.

LOL.... Two big takeaways from that article, one is that the exchange rate is a big factor in staying home, and two a lot of you SOB's up there are dishonest.....

"On the topic of money, a shocking 19 per cent of Canadians admit to intentionally providing inaccurate information to a travel health insurance medical questionnaire, with 58 per cent of Canadians doing so in order to pay a lower rate, in an attempt to save a few dollars. However, it's important to include travel health insurance in every vacation budget to avoid unexpected surprises."

If you are that much of a cheap skate maybe it is best that you stay home, luckily the Canadians I have met down here have generally been outstanding people, what happened to you crackers?

Based on a very limited survey you somehow know what's going on in the US? There are still a lot of snowbirds traveling south.

I go back and forth a lot at various entrance points and its always jammed. It hasn't slowed down.

Its not just politics as you pretend it is. Your economy isn't good and that contributes to people not traveling abroad too.

"...59 per cent of Canadians are less likely to travel to the U.S. right now due to the exchange rate"

More people are working, there is more income in our economy, our dollar is strong, is it surprising that the deficit grows? The biggest deficit growth is in consumer goods, just means that people are spending again, it is no secret that we exported our manufacturing, Trump is trying to address that and until he strikes a balance things like this should surprise no one.... You have to think for yourself Crackers, this is not hard, simple economics, the US economy is growing, consumer confidence is at a very high level here, most of our consumable electronics and other goods are made overseas... What do you think will happen when all those factors converge?
