Duracell Batteries?

I generally stick to batteries from the camera manufacturer. However, I chanced across a link online to a Duracell battery that is 50% the cost of the manufacturer's battery for one of my cameras. With Duracell being a name brand, I wonder if it’s worth spending the extra money on OEM? Does anyone have any experience with Duracell brand batteries made for cameras, or in general just have thoughts to share?

Thanks!

Ben, quite honestly, I stick with OEM batteries. The only reason is if for some weird reason something happens to a battery and the camera needs repair as a result, the company can't come back with, the non-OEM battery is the cause and we have to charge you some outrageous amount for the repair. I'd just as soon not risk that scenario.

The Lumix G7. I’m not sure what their SKU for the actual battery is.

That’s pretty much been my thinking as well, Bob. Thank you for your valued input.

But when I sent my Nikon in for repair they advice not to send the battery.

I wonder if they would have done the same thing if your problem was one where the battery could be a possible cause.

In such case you could put in an OEM battery and see if the problem goes away. If not then send the camera with the OEM battery.

I was actually talking about a situation like corrosion because of battery leakage.

Duracell is notorious for leakage... Their AA and AAA batteries anyway...

There is a huge difference from batteries from say Costco and battery store like Batteries Plus Inc. You pay double for their batteries but they last 4 or 5 times longer and I would imagine they have a more durable casing. Check them out . . I think they are Nationwide. Camera Manufactures would also use these batteries.

Consumer Reports rates Kirkland batteries as best buys.

I had an entire package of Duracell batteries corrode sitting in my desk drawer. My house is air conditioned so it wasn't a climate issue. They were years away from the expiration date. I emailed a picture to Duracell including the lot # and within a couple of days I had a certificate to replace them. Lowes took the certificate with no issue. I wonder if we hear more about Duracell problems because they may sell more???

The only non OEM battery I ever used in a Nikon was a Watson that B&H sent with a D4s. I now use it in a grip on the D850. It's been more than a couple of years and still going strong.

Gee, all you have to do is take the non-OEM battery out and replace it with an OEM battery before sending the camera in for repair. Not hard to do. The company will then have to blame their own battery for causing the trouble. Risk averted, rmalarz!

At what cost? Better to pay for the repair. My two cents.
