Hi, everyone! Greetings from the Old Dominion (Virginia)! I consider myself an intermediate photographer; I took a lot of pix on an Olympus OM-1 in the 80's, and am very grateful for digital cameras (that film got to be expensive). Since then, I've only used my I-phone, but will soon be buying a DSLR; I'm considering a Nikon D5600 -- any advice?
Welcome to the forum.
Figure what you need the camera to do, hold each candidate to make sure it "fits" and the controls are easy to use. If it's not comfortable, you won't enjoy using it that much....
Welcome to the Hog, Rix, enjoy.
Welcome. The D5600 is a nice camera.
Welcome to UHH Aloha Rix, glad you joined us. I suggest you also look at the D7200.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Aloha Rix and welcome to UHH. I agree with Longshadow above. If you can physically check out the camera if you can before you buy. If it feels comfortable in you hands and you like the many different functions then that should be your camera. Again welcome to UHH.

Thanks for the great welcome, especially the comments by Longshadow, Retired CPO, PAR4DCR and JoAnneK01: I checked out the D5600 and the D7200; I decided the D5600 was a better choice for me. I have been away from photography for awhile, and the 5600 has nearly all the same features (at a much lower price!) and the tips and nudges from the camera will probably be a great refresher for me. I didn't test drive the 5600 but now that I have it, I need to make time to really learn it but so far I really like the camera (and the 3 other lenses I bought). Shout out to Retired CPO: I am a retired Ag Specialist. Small world.
