The only other thing I might suggest is that you go through the camera menu to make sure that the shutter button is also set to focus - it's possible that focus was inadvertently set to back button. Not likely but you never know. Good luck!!

AS we all know, a good camera does not a good photographer make. A bit of skill is involved and some luck never hurts either, along with the right settings for the equipment in use at the time! No hurts no rudeness, no worries. Keep shooting!

The Picture Control settings look suspect to me. The image information states "standard mode," but the individual settings are really extreme. I'd try resetting it them all to zero and see what happens. I couldn't see the focus points in ViewNxi, but I see the focus mode varied from continuous to auto.

Thank you, when she brings me the camera I will try to reset everything. Many of the settings were changed in an attempt to get the camera to focus. She sent me 700 pictures of the 6000 she took. She made setting and mode changes every ten pictures or so each day of shooting to try to get a sharp photo and nothing she tried gave her any sharp photos. That is why a lot of the settings are extreme. On Thurs. she spent an hour and half photographing the turkeys and took over 300 shots and none were sharp. I picked a few randomly to post from the 700 she sent me.

Multisegment setting on a D7### camera can give you problems. Try spot setting and move the spot around to the subject of interest. I thought Nikon had solved that problem with the D7200. That's gotta be a real disappointment. I wonder if Nikon has a flash upgrade that solves that problem. I still have my D7000 and get good pics in the spot mode. My D500 in the multisegment mode doesn't usually have that problem.

If you're going to keep on using that camera - keep an eye on where the camera is looking through the viewfinder. Good luck and let us know what the solution comes out to be

Probably didn't set a focal point! Camera sets all to try to take a focused snapshot. Meaning it will try to focus everything. My Canon sets all 45 if I let it. I set it to SINGLE focal point. Usually the center one in the viewfinder, re compose and shoot

My daughter just bought a Nikon 7200. She went to Florida on vacation and shot 6000 pictures and didn't get any sharp photos. Less than 10 are ok. She asked me to put a few here for an opinion what could be wrong. She has a D80 and a D90 and never gets a bad picture. She is quite upset with the D7200. She wants an opinion other that mine. Most all are out of focus. She tried 2 different lenses.

I have had only one reason for an ongoing batch of out of focus images on a Nikon D7100.
The AF / M lever on the camera body lower left next to the lens mount gets pushed off AF by my grip hand fingertip.
It must be solidly snapped into the forward position, and is one of those things that need to be manually checked (not just visually).

I too think she needs some understanding of the focus modes. However I'm sure she used AF-S and AF-C and the focus selector was locked. She called me about the problem each day. Hopefully when I get the camera I can find the problem.

Very curious to see what you find. It's been awhile since my D7200 (a fine camera by the way), but I recall you can be in AF-C and still d51 focus points. And in AF-S and Auto or Grp focus settings.

From the Exif of 4 shots I have looked at the camera was in;

AF Area Mode: Auto-area

Not sure of the working of "Auto Area" with the D7200?

This reminds me of a practical joke(revenge) my friend did to his co-worker who as an a**hole. Their company bought a D7000 to be shared between him and this person. He said, "Being an A**hole, the co-worker would not accept any instruction and openly boasts that he is an expert photographer". What he did was turn-off the anti vibration & auto focus in the lens, the auto focus switch in the camera, and then adjusted the camera so that it uses the back button to focus, instead of the half press and finally adjusted the eyepiece diopter. Needless to say, his co-worker was never able to make any useful picture with that camera as everything would always be out of focus.

Okay, okay, you're being nit-picky! He meant "single-point center weighted focus".

I agree, Steve Perry does a great job of an overview of "focus problems", which may help you solve her problem.

I, respectfully, disagree that I am being nit-picky! When an op, who has little knowledge, asks a question and a responder provides completely inaccurate information, the op is left more confused. There is also NO SUCH THING as "single-point center weighted focus" as that seems to be a combination of focusing and metering systems. There is a "single point" focus selection and also a center weighted metering mode. Accuracy, at least while learning, is important. I normally use a "group focus" mode in combination with "Matrix metering" but, depending upon conditions and desired outcome, may use many other combinations. I completely agree that Steve Perry does a great job in explaining all the focusing options and making recommendations on when to use each. With practice it does become second nature. Best of luck.

Have her check if the autofocus is set to 'focus priority'.
