I captured this landmark this past Saturday while doing the South Carolina portion of “50 Great Scenic Drives”. This is from a pamphlet I found put out by National Geographic Traveler magazine many years ago.

Here are things I discovered about this structure:

1. It was named as one of the top landmarks in America by Readers Digest
2. It was mentioned in the Netflix TV show, House of Cards.
3. It is 4 stories...135 feet tall.
4. It holds one million gallons of water.
5. It is located on interstate 85 near the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway

One last thing I found out....as some may know, Kevin Spacey played the main character, Francis Underwood...as a fictional President Of the United States. There is an actual headstone with the name Francis Underwood, in a Gaffney, South Carolina cemetery.

That's a beauty. I've seen a similar tower alongside Route I-95, bit this one is on I-85.

Nice shot. But my favorite part is that you might stir up yet another debate about whether an iPhone is a “real” camera. 😜🤪

Thanks, Jerry. I see that Clanton, Alabama has a Big Peach Water Tower...newer and smaller...both constructed by the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company.

That was some interesting facts about the big peach. Item 3 where you say it's "4 stories, 135 ft tall" peaked my curiosity. In my mind, 135 ft would seem rather tall for only 4 stories tall. I looked up how high a story is and the consensus is a story is about 10' high.
That would make the peach tower 13-14 stories high and not just 4 stories. That makes more sense to me. What say you?

I would say you made a good catch....my information came from a travel guide that contained information about the “Peachoid”. I checked other sources and the 135 feet seems correct. Checking on how many feet are in a story, I agree your calculations seem right.

And in doing this fact check I found that it took 50 gallons of paint for the final product.

Thanks for the correction!
