Photos From iPhone 6s Won't Download to Laptop

Although my primary camera is a Canon 80D, I occasionally use my cell phone for snapshots.

My laptop uses Windows 10 and its USB ports are 3.0. Downloading photos from my 80D is not a problem, but photos from my cell phone won't download.

Has anyone else had this problem and what is the solution?

Syncios. Download the free version to your laptop.

I don’t have a Windows computer. If all else fails, email them to yourself. Just a thought.

I don't fool with another app to do the job. It is just so easy to email the photos to myself. Quick and easy.

I had the 6S and had no problem transferring images from the phone to a Windows 10 PC. Simply connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable. Touch the phone and it will ask if you trust the PC. Click on YES then you can copy images from the phone to the PC.
No software, driver needed.

I think your problem is photo format. Apple’s new format is HEIC if you have all the current updates. Go into settings > photos > and check download in compatable format.
HEIC is a new format that Apple claims does not degrade overtime from recompressing each time the photo is saved.
Just downloaded the newest update: At the bottom of photos in settings make sure “Transfer to MAC or PC” that Automatic is checked.

This maybe overly obvious but did you try restarting your laptop? If you use other things in those USB ports like external drives the issue could be it not assigning a drive letter to your phone when you plug it in it may only be charging. Check to see if it is listed as a drive. Reboot and try plugging the phone in you should get a message asking if you want to allow access. Usually that is all you need to do. Once you do that if it recognizes the phone you can permanately assign it another drive letter. I would use a high letter because what this usually is related to is your laptop has already assinged d e and f to other drives. I assigned my iPhone to X. What is happening is the computer is recognizing something else as D or E or what ever your drives are. So it does not recognize the phone. I had the same problem with windows 10 until I mapped each hard drive to its own letter. Good luck.

When you plug your phone in you will get a message something like the device isn't recognized and to Keep Trying. After a few clicks on this button, check your phone's screen. It will eventually show a message that asks if you want Windows to access Photos. Click Yes and you can navigate to your photos. Windows will see your phone as a camera DCIM folder.

My Android tablet when plugged into the computer behaves as a disk drive. I then use windows explorer to copy files. One can then delete the photos from the phone.

Note that not all usb cables are the same. Some are for charging only. The one that came with the camera is the one to use.

Apple has taught me to hate their products - they do a lot of screwy things that create incompatibilities where unnecessary.

Apple wants you to do any files transfer via ICloud so they have your files.

In case anyone is interested: The same answer applies to Android devices, regarding getting permission to access the device's files from the PC.

I've found that only the original iPhone cable works reliably to transfer photos to my Windows 10 laptop. Aftermarket cables work sporadically or not at all.

Not only not true but also the easiest option. My phone pics go directly to iCloud anyway.

HEIC is apple new format to save more memory but also I believe that this creates a problem with certain older iPhones, again. Apple got sued for the “battery error” My touch copy didn’t download HEIC files and I didn’t try my expand-sandisk jet.
