I'm with you, Jerry. Why tax are already overworked brains. Call an accountant.

I remember these from school. I don't enjoy them any more now than I did then.

Somebody has to pay for the care of the people trying to come in from down south, no jobs, carrying diseases, hungry, gotta register them as liberals and get them some assistance.

5 sons X 3 shares = 15 shares
4 daughters X 2 shares = 8 shares
1 Wife X 1 share = 1 share

Total shares = 24

Β£8000 / 24 = Β£333.33

each son gets Β£333.33 X 3 = Β£999.99 X 5 sons = Β£4999.95
each daughter gets Β£333.33 X 2 = Β£666.66 X 4 daughters = Β£2666.64
wife gets Β£333.33

Total Β£8000 - (Β£4999.95 + Β£2666.64 + Β£333.33) = Β£7999.92 (Β£0.08 goes to bank fees)

Mother = x
Daughter = 2x times 2 = 4x
Sons = 6x times 5 = 30x
Total shares = 35
8000 devided by 35 = 228.57

I'm sorry, wbauknight, but my calc says there are 39 shares:

Mother share = 1Γ—
Daughter share = 2x (times 4 daughters) = 8x
Son share = 6x (times 5 sons) = 30x

Therefore, 1+8 +30 = 39 shares in all;
And 1 share = $8000 / 39 = $205.12

Anyone else get 205.12?

A good way to check your calc's is to make sure that each brother gets three times as much as each sister and it appears that everyone except amfoto 1 and Bill Gordon got it wrong. 39 total shares.

I think it comes out to about 205.12 Should be 39 shares total of which widow would get 1. 8000 divided by 39 equals 205.12 rounded. Each son gets 1230.77 and the daughters each get 410.24 each.

Three equations in three unkowns.

Sons get 120 each
Daughters get 40 each
Widow gets 20

6x120+4x40+1x20=900
