The last one looks like a jumping cholla. Definitely don't get too close; they may not jump but they sure can find you if you get too close.
You are correct, they are to be respected for sure! Thanks so much for looking!

I had not thought of it in a while, but the mention of cholla cactus sparked it. A park near me has an employee community area called 'chateau cholla' which I find to represent the best of America, a place where attaching words from two languages other than English just slides right on by.....

We were lucky enough to spend a week in the Sonoran desert riding and exploring, here are a few photo's I took, I will post more soon (there is so much to see there!) Best seen in download.
Rena, fantastic set of captures. The detail in DDLs is amazing and required to really enjoy them.

What a lovely set.
A desert and these images seem to be an oximoron.
On the day you posted these lovely photos, a blizzard swept through AZ, dumping feet of snow in the north and blanketing the south in white. Travel was generally discouraged, but I had to drive from NM to Tucson and headed right into the storm. I grew up and learned to drive in CO, and this rivaled anything I encountered there! Still the desert, or what could be seen of it, was beautiful.
