I know that "rust is a color" when applied to rat rods, but it is rather sad to see these cars in such a sad state when they could possibly be restored to their former glory! There are a lot of talented craftsmen in this country that could work their magic.

The 35L is a popular prime lens for photojournalism, street photography and weddings. The focal length does not distort as much as other wider offerings. The large aperture is good for dim light, and the low distortion is good for group portraits.

Old Car City is definitely a place of memories where you might find a car a younger you, your dad, or your grandmother once drove.

Many of the cars are mossy or half-buried in pine needles and leaf litter. Some have been lifted into the air by the trees that grew beneath them. Others have roots and branches erupting out of engine compartments, trunks, and radiator grills.

Ektar started as a color 35mm semi-professional film introduced by Eastman Kodak in 1989, which used the common C-41 process. Poor market segmentation between various formats influenced Kodak's decision to discontinue Ektar in 1994. The film was replaced by the Royal Gold line. Prior to its use on films, the Ektar name originally referred to Eastman Kodak's premium-priced lenses for professional use, introduced in 1936 and sold until the 1960s. The name Ektar is an acronym for Eastman Kodak TessAR. A new film was introduced in September 2008 under the name Kodak EKTAR 100, which claims to be the finest-grain color negative film available on the market, featuring high saturation and vivid colors.

Thank you Jack, Greg, steve49, nimbushopper, FL Streetrodder, Earnest, Bullittjon, merrytexan! I've read a few interviews with the owner while collecting ideas for captions for the multiple posts I've prepared from the 2018 visits. Once you've been to Old Car City and read about the owner, you'll understand the cars decaying in the woods are his artistic vision. These cars were not intended for resale and restore, certainly not after he took over the junkyard from his parents. Some portions of the property, well back in the woods and away from the entrance, the cars are arranged in an artist circle for painting and other ideas.

Nice set Paul. I still have a few film cameras, but I haven't used them in a while. These shots make me want to take the film camera out of the mothballs. Film has so much more dynamic range. I shot film for 50 years before I got a digital camera. Shooting film defined my process and still does to this day.

I am familiar with this place via the works of another photographer. Awesome looking place, but I'd be scared of snakes!

They tell you not to to open the hoods or doors. I assume they also meant for you not to stick your arm underthings. I am not familiar with the number of snake causalities per year.

I too am reluctant to be around snakes. If you stay on the trail there should be no problem. I never saw a snake nor did anyone in our group of 12. I am going back because my son lives in Atlanta, about 40+ miles south of White City and Old Car City. Go!! You could easily spend a couple of days there.

Thank you Jan, Terry, Don, Carol, Bill! I strongly recommend a visit to Old Car City, if you have the interest or even just in the Atlanta / Chattanooga area and have the time. I've done both tripod and non tripod and think the tripod is a better option, certainly as a method to slowdown and compose. I have a few posts drafted around the 2018 results, hopefully not too much to become boring over a few days of posts. Glad you enjoyed these.

I imagine old car enthusiasts would find this place very interesting. Photo #1 made me think of the Ewoks in a Star Wars movie.

Thank you Lee! I've only been to OCC in November where I think the leaves and pine needles are thicker. Glad you enjoyed.
