I ordered several items from Walmart.com. I received the items in several boxes over a period of about a week. A box about that size was delivered with just a six pack of Hershey with Almonds candy bars.

An Artificial Robot decided that and packaged it.

And people wonder why shipping prices are so high. There is a company I deal with that does the same thing. Ridiculous!

It appears the shipment arrived in great condition. Amazon took no chances.

I ordered the exact same battery sleeve from REI and had it shipped to the store for free pickup. When the sales associate left for the back room, I told her “it will probably be in a small padded envelope”. No, she brings out the same size box that you received. She told me that is the shipping protocol for lithium batteries.

I got a box like that with an SD card in it so it must be a universal issue.

I have experienced the same thing. Not sure why they do it? Maybe it's easier to lose a small package? Who knows?

I thought it unusual, but apparently not.

It might be cheaper to buy cheap/small items than buy boxes when you need them.

The box size it not only related to the size of the product(s) it contains, it is also influenced in creating cubes of several boxes "tetris" style to improve all logistics movements.
However, in this case, a simple envelope would have been more than enough.
