Yes, I need to do just that. I will say, though, that the plate that came with my strap is different than the one the OP has. I need a coin or screwdriver to loosen it and it is always secure.

I have never had my Black Rapid strap fail me. Ever.

That's good advice - two separate mounting points. With the two regular strap lugs, if one point fails, you still drop the camera. Generally speaking, the tripod plate isn't the best place to mount a strap. Every camera manufacturer says so. MT Shooter once posted a series of pictures of that tripod plate ripped off cameras.

A far greater danger than the tripod plate ripping off is that it can unscrew itself over time, and simply fall out of the socket. Almost happened to me a few years ago; fortunately I noticed just in time. Ever since that incident I've avoided straps which attach via tripod mount. One less thing to worry about.

Of course you wouldn’t think to check the tightness every now and then. How about maintaining your gear same as any other equipment.

Important point! All it takes to loosen any screwed in part is to bang against something at just the right angle - and it doesn't have to be a hard knock.

Get a camera plate by RRS (arca swiss compatible) they are way more secure. That's what I use with my Peak Straps.

If you have the little round plastic disks that clip into a slot then you have to do any of four things (sorry not the best photo) -
1. Every now and again unclip the plastic disks and untwist them.
2. Learn not to twist your strap when using the camera.
3. Untwist the camera strap.
4. Research to see if there is any sort of universal swivel that will automatically unwind (best of luck with this although you might want to check out fishing line swivels).

I have this problem with lots of things in life - headphone cable, hoses, compressor hoses, extension cables, extension cords, the legs of my trousers. Boils down to learning to be very careful how you do things.
