I went looking to photograph some small songbirds this morning...with only moderate success and no sharp photos. But I kept coming across connections with the idea of homicide. See my labels below. All taken with Nikon D500, Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom.

Great shots. I have witnessed once, a team of crows, intimidate a hawk. And had him flying away to avoid harm. Notice, I said a team of crows. Not one crow.

Does your first caption contain a spell-checker alteration? Were you making a pun?

Very nice set of pictures.

Very creative connections made - I'm curious as to which photo first triggered the title themes?

According to Wikipedia. "A Murder of Crows may refer to: The collective noun for a group of crows." It's kind of a synonym of "flock" with respect to crows. The phrase has appeared many times in books, films, the names of rock groups, video games, etc. I knew the collective name for a group of crows, so when I thought of a way to connect the photos I was posting, it fit right in, so no, it was not a typo or spell check error. jak

Bluemore,

Actually, I think it was the crows and hawk. I was trying to find a theme that might stimulate interest without saying something like "Birds and Daisies". Because I was aware of the collective noun "Murder" as a reference to a group of crows, the only way I could think of to connect the flowers was "Pushing up Daisies" as a reference to death. The raptor's eye was the final connection to death and killing. I was just having some fun and hoped UHHers who were interested based upon the title might enjoy the posts. Thanks for taking the time to view and comment.

Of course I noticed you said a "team" of crows. That's what "A Murder of Crows" means...a group of crows. Notice that the photo shows a group of crows. I've discovered that when I see several crows flying around a tall tree I need to look closely to see if they have a hawk trapped in the tree. Sometimes they'll also land in the tree, surrounding the raptor. They'll stay in or near that tree as long as the hawk remains and do all they can to chase off the predator if it leaves its safety. (I've also seen Mockingbirds, Blackbirds, and even Hummingbirds attack and try to chase off raptors that enter their territories, though the systematic and social efforts of crows and ravens are the most frequent. jak

Thumbs up - both pictorially and linguistically.
