Each year the Shoshone-Bannock tribe hosts a pow-wow/festival at the Fort Hall Reservation. Tribes from the US and Canada attend and participate in a variety of contests and activities. The tribe graciously allows non indians to view much of the festival. It is a wonderful photographic opportunity. If any of you hoggers are planning a vacation that will take you to Idaho (between Pocatello and Blackfoot) sometime from Aug. 8th - 11th., I would highly recommend attendance. The grand entry and the dancing competition are especially photogenic. Check out their website as the time gets closer for exact times. I have posted a few of the many hundreds of photos that I have taken over the years.
Outstanding photographs of a truly spectacular event. I live in Chubbuck, ID, right next door to Fort Hall and have had several Shoshone-Bannock students in my classes at Idaho State. The Rez, its local nickname, is a place that welcomes visitors who are respectful of the people and, their customs and beliefs. I recommend this event to any who would be in the neighborhood. Lodging is available, the restaurants are great and for those who like to gamble, there is a casino. As one who is not Native American, I have always felt welcomed when I visit. The Sho-Ban people are fine folks.
Nice shots.
The last is a hanger.
Thanks for some great images and the suggestion. I lived in IF for 30 plus years and never went. Did like the State Fair in Blackfoot. Think I'll take the RV over this summer. My great granddaughters live in IF anyway.
Seems like that is about the time of the Eastern Idaho State Fair?
Beautiful images and a wonderful presentation, Lloyd!
Excellent set - colourful and most interesting.
Really excellent photos. Those costumes are so beautiful.
Excellent set of shots ... thanks for sharing.
Very nice set of images. Being from Montana, I enjoy attending pow wows when I can. Thanks for sharing.
