Yes, I did my research & looked outside the box, when I invested in an upgrade. Choosing Sony was justified.

I'll stick Nikon and if I were to switch I would go with Canon. There are far more lenses and accessories available for them. Nikon and Canon are the only companies I know of that manufacture tilt/shift lenses.

Leica claims that Sony's E-mount was designed for crop sensor cameras. The E-mount has a 46.1mm diameter. Nikon's new Z-mount has a 56mm diameter and Canon's R-mount has a 55mm diameter. This allows Nikon and Canon to produce f/1.2 and even f/0.95 lenses for their new mirrorless full frame cameras.

Sony loads their low and mid priced cameras with more features than the competition. It's not a question of quality among the brands, they are all great cameras. The best bang for your buck still remains Sony with class leading features that go down to their entry level cameras. It may be too late for Canikon to catch up. Fujifilm, Olympus and Panasonic have seen the light and are making cameras that are closer in value to Sony than Canikon. Shooters that are locked into brands by their lens stables don't switch systems that easily. New buyers however, are better served by Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, and Panasonic. Please, this is just my observation and opinion.

I am neither a Sony or Canon user. So I have no dog in this fight. ( I use Fuji and Pentax ) I welcome the competition between all camera brands as this will provide better products for us all. However, I somehow suspect that Sony should recall the words of Admiral Yamamoto after successfully attacking Pearl Harbor: " I fear we may have awakened a sleeping giant."

I am a Sony user but ...., some of Sony's cameras have so many "features" it seems like they get in the way of just taking a picture. Personally, I could easily do without video and a few of the other features that, IMHO, just get in the way and drive up the cost.

Why do people say CANIKON?! Canon and Nikon are to totally separate companies with no connection to the other. Nikon's "parent" company is Mitsubishi, Canon's parent company is Canon.
People say they are too far behind to catch up. Canon is still the largest manufacturer of photography equipment and will more than likely remain so. Soon, they will offer the same features as everyone else, for example, IBIS, and their MILC system, like their DSLR system, will be second to none. Canon is the title sponsor of the 2020 Olympic games in Japan. A major accomplishment for a company that so many people believe is rapidly going down the tubes, don't you think!?

Fact check here: -There are already tilt-shift and f 0.95 lenses made for Sony's E-Mount, have been for years.
-This same E-Mount is used on Sony's Venice Cameras that Oscar-winning Director James Cameron uses to shoot his Avatar movies (two new ones in production now).
-The whole lens mount size thing is simply for bragging rights and hype . Sony E-Mount is no barrier to making fast lenses, never was.
-Sony has the fullest line of MIRRORLESS lenses of any manufacturer (not adapted non-mirrorless older lenses)

Be sure of your facts before you post fake news. Cheers

By that logic you should complain to your grocery store manager because he carries items you don't want. Cameras are marketed to the masses, especially hobby/enthusist models. The additional cost is negligible if any. Once your camera is set up to your liking, what's the problem?

No, it's lazy, not typing two names, combining two names into a non existent entity. There is no Canikon.
Why not Sonikon or Panon or Lumica or Fujica or Fujikon or Fujinon or Panony or Olyica or Panipus or any of numerous combinations of camera company names. Duh...

There is a fair number of features on both my cameras which I never use and doubt that I ever will. And as Gasman rightly says, they do not bother me. However I would like to see professional-grade cameras made without video, GPS horizen levellers, etc. They surely contribute to the cost of manufacture yet I also realize that appealing to the mass markets makes standardization easier which contains costs. Life is the way it is. As the great author, Edward Abbey said, " Life is not fair and it is not fair that life is not fair! "

Sony loads their oh so many models of cameras with numerous features, lots of which most people will never use, because of marketing. The average consumer is easily convinced they are getting a superior product because it's loaded with so many features. Sony is constantly introducing new models with loads of features. Not necessarily a bad thing as it constantly gives the consumers lots of choices. Not necessarily a good thing because it never gives the technology a chance to mature. Cutting edge may also be bleeding edge.
Sony is currently the industry leader in MILC sales, Canon is number two. Canon still leads in DSLR sales, Nikon is number two. Canon and Nikon are putting big bucks into developing new MILC models. Sony does not build a 35mm model that can stand up to the use and abuse that either the D1X II or D5 can take.
My dogs may not be bigger than your dog but they're probably cuter and more fun to live with. As far as I'm concerned, people should buy what they want, not what someone else wants them to or thinks they should buy.

Canikon is a common term used by many reviewers to denote the "Big 2". I guess that concept is far too complex for you to "cipher". Without trying to insult the many happy owners of Canikon ( yes I said it), a few are very insecure and defensive whenever a comment doesn't suit them. Move on, life is full of opinions, criticisms, and some aren't pretty.
