I’m am going to India mid March for a month. Is there such a thing as an external drive that reads SD cards? I am bringing plenty with me but I’m nervous that something may be lost.
Thank you in advance for any advise, greatly appreciated.
Ps. I shoot JPG and RAW.

Take a look at the negative reviews of these devices.

Yes, there are about five or six on the market. Next to is one of them, there are some that take a total of fourteen different kind of cards!

I took a WD My Passport wireless pro and a RavPower filehub with 2 portable hard drives for a month vacation in France late last year. Both worked flawlessly with a one button process of backing up my cards. The RavPower was hooked to and powered the drives with a 3.0 USB cable. I did not bring a laptop, choosing to spend my time enjoying being there. I did have a tablet for communication.

So I brought 3 drive backups home plus the CF and SD cards (I have quite a few cards for business and pleasure). All in all, over 6000 files. Probably a third were 3 bracket shots of dark interiors, mostly churches and abbeys.

Enjoy your trip.

I understand this is a reader but it doesn't back up the files. So you still need a computer, is this correct?

I have the WD 500GB My Passport Wireless SSD. I don't need to use it wirelessly when I get home, so it is pretty fast transferring files. I can't seem to get it to work on my Amazon Tablet. I was hoping I could view the files there. If anyone knows how I can do this, I would love the help.

I just got a My Passport, based on some favorable articles. I found it difficult and unintuitive to set up, but half an hour on the phone with one of their support people got me going. It seems to works well, and I have high hopes for it. I'll be taking it on its maiden voyage soon for a 2-week trip. I think it will be fine, but be aware that my initial response was somewhat negative.

The Ravpower hub lets you transfer files from your SD card to a USB hard drive with one button push. You can also transfer jpegs from the card to a tablet or phone using its wifi access point capabilities.

Hmm. that might work a bit better for me. I will be traveling to Kenya in July. There is a weight limit, so I am not sure if I will bring my travel laptop. I was going to bring the my passport ssd drive, but that only give me one backup. I have 2 small hard drives, with the Ravpower, I could back up to my 2 hard drives. I have to think about this option.
Thanks so much.
