Gruyères is a town in the district of Gruyère in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The medieval town is an important tourist location in the upper valley of the Saane/Sarine river, and gives its name to Gruyère cheese. The medieval town is located at the top of 82 metre-high hill overlooking the Saane valley and the Lake of Gruyère. It is a short drive from Montreaux (home of the Jazz Festival) and has some great restaurants specializing in cheese fondeau. Enjoy - we loved the fondeau!

Thanks ewelling. Switzerland, for a small country, has a varied host of beautiful scenery.

Nice, I believe I've eaten their cheese
That does it! You've made my mind up for me -- my vacation this year is going to be visiting Switzerland!

Thanks Rick. They serve a slab under a heater that looks like a desk lamp and you spread it on this great bread. A picture of my wife Gail at lunch waiting for the cheese to start melting. The soup was so thick I ate it with a fork!

You'll love it Fred. Make sure you tell the Swiss tourist bureau where you got the idea so I can get a commission!

Thanks so much Mike. We use Tauck for all of our trips. A little pricey but everything is first class and they really take care of you.
