Very nice photo but it looks like a lot of motive power for just a caboose. Maybe the diesel is moving the steamer and caboose to the maintenance shop.

BTW, should this be in the Photo Gallery or Trains section instead of the Main Photography Discussion? I hesitate to mention this because Admin might move it, someone will see it after it is moved and post a comment saying something like "I found it in the xxx section". Or does this qualify as a Main Photography Discussion subject?

Looks like the steam locomotive & tender, and the caboose, are being moved somewhere by the diesel engine up front. If I could read the numbers on the locomotive and the caboose, I could tell you more about them.

That's why I asked where the photo was taken, since only five NKP "Berkshire" locomotives still exist, and not many of those are operational {so they would need a modern locomotive to shift it around}; I guess I should also ask when the photo was taken.

Locomotives look like a 2-8-4. Is it? That pictures show a real part of America's History. I would have like to get pictures of that train. If I had that caboose, I would move in to it. Sell off the house. I remember the inside of a caboose like that, wood on the inside was unreal.

Main Photography section - basically what new stuff is available, what camera or kit to buy and anything to do with taking images
General chit - chat Interesting stuff that may or may not be about photography
Links and resources - Whatever you think is interesting or fun that includes a hot link as you are too lazy to cut - n - paste
The Attic - where lots of things get shifted just to annoy.

dead set on remaining in service.

I'm not so convinced about "remaining in service".
Maybe so ... just maybe. What I see here is three
legacy items, steam loco, tender, and caboose, all
being hauled by a diesel ... maybe to a museum ?

Yes, NKP Berkshires were 2-8-4.

These days, freight trains are more likely to have an End-of-Train Device (ETD)
also called Flashing Rear-End Device (FRED) or Sense and Breaking Unit (SBU).
Not nearly as photogenic.
