Some of you folks need to pay attention. Compare your paychecks to previously and see that you had less tax taken. It has nothing to do with whether you got more or less of a refund. There was no false promise of a tax cut. Google and discover that a vast majority of folks indeed did get a tax cut.

Let's see how the voters will respond to the false promise of tax cuts for the middle class.

Sucks to live in California...
Live where the tax rates & housing are more reasonable...
Why should people in low tax rate states subsidise people who live in high tax states.

Actually the facts are just the opposite! The people who live in high tax states live in states which receive the least federal funds in return of the federal taxes they pay! Thus the higher taxes states are actually subsidizing those who live in lower tax states!

Yes, I owe more this year than last. So much for the tax cut. I live in CA so our 13% state income tax isn't deductible anymore. Sucks. Tax cuts benefit the rich? I'm not rich, just comfortable, so I don't know what to think. Rich is driving a $150,000 car or owning a private jet. Not a 7 year old car, a 10 year old car, and a mortgage. Sure didn't benefit me and my wife.

Rich is buying a 100,000 dollar Tesla and having the Ca. Taxpayers chip in a few thousand to help you out.

Hey, as long as the very wealthy don’t have to pay, all is good. As an FYI, Netflix made $845 million dollar profit and don’t have to pay a penny in taxes.

The issue isn’t that a politician promises tax cuts, the problem is that the people believe it.

I think the average family making $40-80k probably made out okay. That's fine in places like Kansas or Montana where you can buy a 10 acre plot with a house on it for $250k. In California, especially the Bay Area, $80k is considered low income. Don't believe me, look it up.

As far as Netflix goes, my wife has had personal dealings with Reed Hastings, the owner, and we're not allowed to use Netflix in our home. He treated her poorly a few years ago and she doesn't forgive him for it.

Looking at the CA tax tables to get to 13% you should be making enough to buy an overrated Hasselblad

Copied from IRS publication on CA tax rates

California has 7 different brackets for personal income tax rates:

1.25% on the first $7,168 of taxable income
2.25% on taxable income between $7,169 and $16,994
4.25% on taxable income between $16,995 and $26,821
6.25% on taxable income between $26,822 and $37,233
8.25% on taxable income between $37,234 and $47,055
9.55% on taxable income between $47,056 and $1,000,000
10.55% on taxable income $1,000,001 or more
Looking at the CA tax tables to get to 13% you sho... (show quote)

Okay so i'm in the 9% bracket. Yes, if I wanted to spend $47,000 on a camera I could do it. The reason my wife and I can retire and not worry too much is because we have always been careful about how we spent our money. Our vacations were a three day weekend in Monterey or Carmel. We didn't get to Europe until our daughter studies overseas on her junior year of college. No country clubs, new car every ten years or so, any tax refunds or company bonuses went into savings. No boat, no Mercedes or Porsche, no private planes. Any money we had we spent on Catholic education for our kid, then University of California. We were careful and played it safe because we didn't have anything to spare. The fact that we have a nice life now is because we sacrificed for 40 years to get where we are. I was mistaken about the 13% tax rate. It's 9.3% for us. Fact is, while many middle class folks are paying a little less we're paying more. No apologies.

Sounds to me like the California tax is your real problem. Florida has zero state income tax and generally nice weather.....

My only child lives in SF and isn't moving anytime soon. I'd move to Florida or Texas in a heartbeat if not for family. The wife isn't leaving her kid and I'm not leaving her. California is such a beautiful state, scenery-wise and weather-wise. If only we could fix the politics. Sigh...

You are aware I live in California. The legislature is 29 dem- 11 rep in the Senate and 61 dem - 20 rep in the assembly. Not much chance of a tax cut.

That is what happens in a true Democracy, the Dems passed the legislation last year that allowed them to take away several more republican seats.

Tax refunds have nothing to do with your tax rate. It simply means you overpaid on your tax witholding. It's not rocket science.

Sadly, for so many of our citizens, it is rocket science.

Two notes: only people making around $250k a year and living in a high state-tax state should see their taxes increase under the Trump cuts, and The shareholders own Netflix......Hastings owns something like 2.5%.

The tax cut isn't one you will see when you file your taxes. You got the tax cut in each pay check you got though out the year, when they took out less in each pay check. I'm sure you noticed that. As far as not being able to deduct an unlimited amount of ridiculous state taxes so that the rest of the country helps you pay them. Those days are over. You now need to hold your state accountable for their excessive taxation without dumping it on the rest of the country.

The whole tax code in USA is a scam. The recent tax legislation was adjusted
more helping big time real estate transactions which helps you know who.
The gains for he middle class were not true. The gains for the rich were.
Our leader went too MarLago to see his buddies and boasted "I just made
you guys richer"
I am not talking as a person who does not love capitalism. My companies I
owned Since 1976 made money and I did well in most years. I helped many
start careers and they still are friends.
I was ripped in 2008 by the Wall street shenanigans. My nest egg was broken.
I wanted to get out of the house I owned never lost money on real estate
got killed in the sale just to downsize.
I am working at 75 now. Marketing and videogapher.
The inequality in the US showed up when the government shut down.
Many of the folks in the US could not afford a $500 car bill if they needed
repairs. For 30 years middle class wages have made very little gains.
I still believe in our country but some adjustments have to be made.

For those that do not like the current system/administration you will have a chance to make change. Looks like we will have more than one choice who favors free healthcare for all, free education for all, open borders, the elimination of air travel and cows, higher taxes, free income for all (even if you don't feel like working), and my favorite of all - income redistribution. I guess the government will look at my IRA and decide that I have too much money and decide to give it to the dude that doesn't feel like working. Tag on sensing sessions so we will have a better understanding and compassion for the folks that kill women and children. All you have to do is pull the right lever and life will be good. Yeah right.
