I have been dodging the pop-ups urging me to upgrade to Mojave since its introduction, waiting for the usual bugs to be fixed. Is it safe to take the plunge? Thanks.

Mark

Mark, I have upgraded to Mojave with no issue. Make sure you are plugged in to AC when starting.

JUst do it, never had any bugs with upgrades, though you may have to reload some plugins for photo editing software.

Just make sure your computer is 2012 or newer. Mine are 2011, so no more new OS for me.

Hate to put a monkey wrench in the works. I have an I-mac. Less than a year old. I installed Mojave and had nothing but problems...BIG TIME. Apple couldn't fix it. I went to an apple repair and they deleted my entire hard drive and reinstalled everything, but with the previous operating system. The computer is now working like a champ again. Yes there were some glitches, but for the most part im back! I am not saying that all apple products will crap out. But mine did. All I say is be wary.

One nice thing about Apple is that you can install the OS quickly and easily - no disks of numbers to worry about. Press a couple of keys, and you download and install.

It is my understanding that Mojave is the last 64-bit OS to support 32-bit architecture application. If you remember back to when 32-bit was replacing 16-bit, that the then existing 16-bit apps ran very slowly and quite raggedly. I am using High Sierra and am seeing the same thing with Office 2011 apps and Photoshop CS4. Haven’t ran my audio editing app (Bias) for a long while.

I've used it for a couple of months on an iMac. My son has a mid-2012 MacBook Pro running it. No issues.

The only problems you may run into are with your older SOFTWARE. Mojave is a "gatekeeper" of sorts, nagging you with a dialog — displayed the first time you run any 32-bit software — reminding you that the application is "not optimized for use with this operating system." All that means is it isn't 64-bit code. It probably will still run, but you WILL NOT be able to run it on the NEXT version of Mac OS, coming Fall of this year.

Some older applications do not run at all under Mojave. I had to give up FileMaker Pro 11 and Final Cut Express 4.01, but kept them running on another startup drive running OS X 10.6.8.

CS4 dies under Mojave.

This article has annoying ads, but good information:

Your results are extremely atypical. I would be speaking to the manager of the Apple Store nearest me, and pleading my case for serious remedy.

Mojave has the fastest Mac OS upgrade rate in recent memory:

http://gs.statcounter.com/macos-version-market-share/desktop/worldwide

Around 37% of all Macs are running Mojave about 4.5 MONTHS after release.

It has taken Microsoft's Windows 10 *3.5 YEARS* to reach 47.4% of all PCs that run Windows.

Strangely, 43.1% of PCs running Windows are running Windows 7, first released 9.5 years ago!

I still use Aperture/iPhotos and had some major problems with Mojave, but things are working fine now after installing several updates. iWeb works as well. Those are the two older programs I'm most worried about.

Hi burkphoto, when you say you would speak to an apple store manager, well, here is what I did...I called Apple, and got a pro on the phone. She said it was not apple's problem and that I had to call Comcast or Earthlink, that it was their problem. (my email was also affected.). Both Comcast and earthlink said it was not their problem, and Comcast even sent out a tech to check out my connection. I called back to apple and they handled my call twice and then turned me over to a senior tech. This was day 3. The senior tech told me she would confer with other senior tech's and get back to me. Already day 4. They never did get back to me. So, I went to the apple store in my area with my computer. At the genius bar, they thought they fixed the problem, (but didn't.) I went back to the apple store and they, right to my face told me it was an "environmental" problem. What kind of bull is an environmental problem I asked. They could not answer. So, here I was with a defective computer all because I installed Mojave. My next step, I called an apple authorized repair company. I asked if they could fix the problem and they asked if they could re-install the previous operating system. I told them if they did that, Apple would NOT honor any problems that possibly arise. They told me that THEY would honor and subsequent problems 100%. Needless to say, they did a real good job of fixing my computer. They even were able to reinstall over 80,000 images I have on file. So, when you say see the manager, LOL. I sure did!!!
