Hi! I've been reading through the forum and have already learned useful information. I am totally new to DSLR photography, I have always used the auto modes on my little point and shoot cameras. I am so excited that maybe one day I can take photos as beautiful as the ones I see here on this site. Y'all are really inspiring!

Welcome! If you tell us what camera gear you are using and what you like to shoot, I'm sure there will be lots of Hoggers with good advice for getting off Auto and making the most with your particular setup.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have a Nikon D5300 and the 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Auto Focus-S DX NIKKOR Zoom Lens.

I guess I have no particular favorite thing to shoot, but I tend to take pictures of flowers, animals, sunsets....when my boys were little they were my favorite subject, but they're not so much fun anymore. I live in a valley with beautiful mountains, which are especially pretty in the fall.

Welcome aboard.
Pick a decently warm and dry day. Be outside before sunup and start shooting for a good hour. Go to the same spot about high noon and repeat the shots. Then go back about an hour before dark and repeat.
Now compare the photos. Pick a few and post them so we can see.
Also, scroll to the top of this screen, click on Home, scroll down and click on any section that looks interesting.
Enjoy!

Thank you! Being up before sunup will be a challenge, I'm more of a night person. But it might be fun to change my normal routine, and go to bed early. It might take me awhile to be brave enough to post any photos here though.
