FACTS:
The original offer's photo claimed "New and unused"!
There is no Canon box shown.
The lens and manual are packed in a manner not consistent with how Canon packages anything.
There are no lens caps. A "new unused lens" comes with lens caps.
What is it that leads anyone to believe this item is as represented? Even putting aside the story about the aunt.

Looks packaged exactly like the equipment I’ve bought from KEH, although I’ve always bought lenses with the lens and body caps. All used. A picture of the actual lens will solve the mystery. Taking it out of the bubble wrap won’t devalue the lens. Maybe there is a Nikon lens in the Canon box.....then all your problems would be solved.

So? Used equipment, even if it's "Like New", can be packaged any way the dealer wants to. But if it's new and unused you expect it to be in the manufacturer's packaging.

I edited my reply. You are certainly correct.

Are you kidding me? That is the box under the bubble wrap.
I hope all you folks are proud of yourselves for ruining this woman's classified ad, I am sure that she appreciates it.... I hope that someday she can return the favor.
FYI and i'm not sure this was mentioned, but what you're looking at is not the actual lens, but the image on the side of the box. I have the same type of box but for the 50mm f/1.8 So I'll agree that the lens may not have been opened by the aunt, But wonder how she reached the conclusion as to what lens to buy for the Oper NOT knowing what lens. I suspect the Oper informed the aunt that if anything was gifted from her, the 50mm lens would be suited for her. Just another reason, when asking others to purchase items for you as they do not know what they're getting into. Request a gift card etc next time, this way you (the buyer) can get exactly what they wanted. Matter of fact, the Oper should send this lens back to her aunt just so the aunt can get her money back or buy the correct lens.
Oh and Blurryeyed I wasn't treated very well within the for sale area either when I first arrived.. Thus I'll not be buying or selling items here.
