That's why I gave you the definition of Zoomed Out. It doesn't mean make the lens longer, it means wider field of view. You zoom in on something to make it look bigger. Zooming out makes the subject look smaller ... as happens when you choose a shorter focal length.
Mr. Friedman was correct.
