Love my Tamron 150-600 G2 on D500 for wildlife. Question is pros/cons to adding the 1.4x or 2x tele? I shoot manual mode with auto ISO at 3200 or 4000. Is it worth the f stop loss on a DX camera to add either the 1.4X or 2X teleconverter? I assume I will be at ISO max on cloudy days and if I raise ISO max higher where does grain really impact the shoot. appreciated
I use a 1.4 on my Sigma 150-600 for wildlife and it works just fine when needed.

I use a 1.4 on my Sigma 150-600C with a D500 and it works great. It came in handy in Yellowstone to get the Bears that were far away. Compared to cropping, the TC is better (but only when looking at 1:1).
appreciate comments. Has anyone used the TC-X20 or just the 1.4X. Do you use or then need the Tap in Console for fine tuning?
Have you consulted the manual for your D7500 for pages 279 - 282 and specifically page 281?

I missed something.... The OP stated he had a D500... Where did the D7500 come from?

It works well when using Tamrons matched TC-1401 1.4X TC

Who is using a D7500 here???
just checked the Tamron page - looks like the 2X on the 150-600G2 cannot be used with a D500 except in manual focus. The D500 is a little more flexible than the D7500 in terms of how many focus points are available slower than f/5.6. Yes, realize that in low contrast situations may have difficulty above f/5.6.
AF (F8): AF points compatible with a maximum aperture of f/8 or faster. note that at maximum combined apertures slower than f/5.6, the camera may not be able to focus on dark or low-contrast
subjects).
Still a lot more reading/listening to do before buying
comments appreciated

Good point. Must be too early this morning. I failed to find the camera in the original post and went back to the OP's posting history looking for a camera type, but now I too see the camera (D500) in the OP ....
I have heard conflicting reports on the functionality of a teleconverter with the Tamron 150-600, so I will be interested to hear others *experience* (not opinions) on this combo.
In fact, at a Tamron meetup I actually asked about this setup and recall being told it was either incompatible or inadviseable....something about fstops and manual vs auto focus.
I wanted if for my Canon 7D m2 w/ Tamron G2 combo.

Before purchasing the equipment that creates a manual focus configuration, you might test your abilities to manually focus and capture
useful images with your lens, camera and candidate shooting situations.

Jerry, the D500 is a Nikon crop sensor camera. The equivalent of 600mm on this camera using the 1.4 TC is 1260, not 840.
I rarely use the D850 or D500/G2 with the 1.4 and prefer to use manual focus when I do. Image quality is very good, but unless I'm shooting long distance wildlife and even then, it is of little value to me.
Looks great on my shelf.
I always giggle knowing that we will always get schooled on crop sensor calculations.
