Just another reason I really dislike these third party retailers like Abes, B&H Adarama.. If at all possible buy direct it's what I've done and I haven't been disappointed in my purchases.

I've been buying from B&H for over 25 years and have never had any problems.

Abe's 5 year warranty is $350.
Buy at full price at B&H & it's included from Nikon.

It was good of you to try them and see if maybe they could deliver what they advertise. It was also nice of you to confirm that "Abe's of Maine Bait and Switch" should be the new name for their store.

I remember when the original Abe had his store on Route 1 in Maine. They were very good. I've always said it's a bad idea to sell the name of your company. The new owners have ruined the reputation of what was originally a good store.

Not in this post, but every seller has had problems with sales and deliveries, as people have posted here. A B&H delivery problem was posted just yesterday, but that was the fault of FedEx, not B&H.

I deal only with companies that have a proven track record: Adorama, Amazon, B&H, Cameta, Costco, Crutchfield, Hunt’s, Robert’s. And I'm sure there are others.

Look it's the same damn lens - Soooo - pay 100 more from any one else & feel morally justified
Bait & Switch at least too me is when they end up attempting sell you something at or near the same price which is of a lesser quality from what was originally advertised

Definition of bait and switch
1 : a sales tactic in which a customer is attracted by the advertisement of a low-priced item but is then encouraged to buy a higher-priced one
2 : the ploy of offering a person something desirable to gain favor (such as political support) then thwarting expectations with something less desirable

LF-4 Rear Lens Cap

This is precisely why I shop there.

You know up front what you are getting and you know what it costs.

You know that you have a guarantee and that they want you to be happy with your purchase.

The only ones to shop at: B&H or Adorama, (and Samy's if you are in a bind.)

I have been lusting for a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens, for some time, so I decided to give Abe's a chance to disprove their BAD Reviews.
So Sunday after saying farewell to my last motorcycle, with cash in my hand I ordered and paid by VISA.

Today I get the phone call I half expected, it does not come with a hood, bag, tripod clamp so I have to buy the attachment kit, so the bait Valentine's Day Sweetheart Deal at https://www.abesofmaine.com/Nikon_AF-S_NIKKOR_200-500mm_f_5_6E_ED_VR_Lens_1028991.html
which clearly shows the tripod clamp at $1089.00, climbs to $1300.00.
I cancelled the order.

Anyone with a good deal available?

Adorama at the holiday's had the $200.00 Nikon deal applied plus a free tripod. Don't know if it is still available. YES THEY DO. FREE MANFROTTO TRIPOD WITH PURCHASE. Here you go.

I have used Adorama for years and have had no problems with them or deliveries. Have on occasion used Amazon, again with no problems. I have purchased many items from Adorama and realize I must suffer from G.A.S. Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

Why complain, Abe's lived up to their reputation 100%!!! LOL... Folks here will say - if you read this forum you have been warned!!!! Now go to Nikon's website, or B&H, Adorama, Cameta and all should be fine.

Friends don't let friends buy from "Abe's of [not] Maine. Skip these tools. Pay more somewhere else.

My choices for camera buys would have to include an estimation of how good the after-purchase service is. If I can't trust them before purchase I certainly can't trust them to deliver good product and to provide good service should I need it three years down the road. It is worth it to me to pay extra for that built-in trust. I don't want to end up with a Yugo.

I have had a problem with both B&H and Adorama. B&H I bought a ball mount, which arrived with only half of it in the box. Not what was shown. After several calls they agreed to discount a new one in place of what they sent. Adorama, sent in some lenses for trade on a used one they had. They sold mine I sent in and then played games for 2 months. Finally, told them I was filing a complain with the AG’s office and send letters to every photo magazine about what they did. They then made good on a new lens for me. I have found that the best quality gear for the best price is through MPB. They are my go to company now. They also beat the heck out of Roberts on the same lenses. Free shipping also.
