I am using Elements 14 and have encountered a minor question with Elements.
If I view a pic on my Windows 10 computer and wish to work on it in Elements, I select he 'Open with' and select Elements. The Elements program launches, but I have to again locate the image and open it in Elements. Is there a way to just select 'Open with' in Windows and have the image automatically open in Elements?

Check this thread:

"Adobe PSE14 is not the correct selection when you browse the apps. list! Pretty misleading since it come first in the list. You must select PSEeditor 14 which is in the folder AdobePSE 14 further down."

If PSE 14 works like PSE 9 clicking on the desired image file should open both PSE and the Image for PPing. I've forgotten since I've used Ps CS6 since 2012. You first need to tell widows once how to open a type of file Iike Jpeg, Tiff, Psd, Dng, and possibly your Raw type. I only use open with for files types not listed, unknown types, or when Windows 10 or earlier seems to be lost. In practice though for Ps I usually use Bridge to locate files and open them.

Adding to lamiaceae's thought: go to Control Panel - Programs - Change default settings - choose what to do with each type of media - Pictures: organize and edit (Adobe Elements).

If you do that, you can double-click any jpg (and I assume raw, but you'd have to test) and it will open in PSE. The drawback to this set-up is if you want to simply view the image. You would then have to do the right click, open with, and select another option.

It is much quicker to find it in the organizer within PSE, first click on the image to select it then click on edit on the top menu and choose "Edit with PSE editor" or click F1. That will bring it up in the editor. If you bring it up in File Explorer, just right click, choose "open with" and choose the PSE program. I'm on PSE 15 right now, but have had the various iterations since about 2004

Hi Linda,
The choices that I have on the dropdown do not include PS Editor 14. The only Photoshop mention is the program. Also.. I have tried using PSE as my default jpg. viewer. Too cumbersome..

To simply view a file you could right click and choose "open".

Do you use the Organizer? If yes, did you try Hassighedgehog's suggestion: It is much quicker to find it in the organizer within PSE, first click on the image to select it then click on edit on the top menu and choose "Edit with PSE editor" or click F1. That will bring it up in the editor.

Was there a time when right-click/open with worked, i.e. before a Windows update?

Why not simply put an icon on the tool bar for Elements? Don't need the "open with" command. Then Elements can find the photo for you.

I always import my photos into Elements Organizer's database, then view or edit as needed.

Yes, that is about right. Thanks for explaining for the OP how and where to do it.

I'm confused. Are you talking simply about a shortcut that opens the software? How does that enable PSE to "find the photo for you?"

Do be careful using non-Photo / Image Processing software when opening or viewing a JPG. Such as MS Windows Media Viewer. In the past if you are not careful some of those sorts of apps. automatically downsize your JPG. I found many years ago before using PSE or Ps Windows would turn my Out Camera Quality JPGs in to lower WEB Quality files if you made any edits or flips or sizing changes using Windows. Not a good thing at all. These day I shoot all RAW so my pix are relatively safe from Microsoft Mischief.

Also you may have to tell Windows to use PSE14 as well as the JPEG file extension.

I click the Icon on the desktop that says Elements. The Elements program opens up. From there you can look at the photos you have downloaded from your camera into your file. You select the ones you want and bring them into Elements. Your original file is than reflected in Elements. Same in Photoshop and Lightroom. No need to use open with. There are many tutorials that explain this much better than I.
