I don’t want this post to turn into a political discussion on gun control but am wondering what other Hogg’s do to protect themselves and their expensive equipment when in remote areas? I carry a firearm. Thoughts All? If this has been discussed before sorry but I’m reviving the thread!

I wear a hat and use sun cream, for sun protection, and take wet weather gear for myself and my back pack (a poncho works well).

I’m serious! Not a joking matter unless your one to never venture out anywhere where you’re alone.

I have a concealed carry permit and usually carry when I am out and about in the wilderness area.

I understand about bears but I’m talking about the 2 legged thieves. I’m not in bear country that much.

If you're so afraid of the world, you shouldn't go out in it, leaving it safer for the rest of us.

My question is about folks in the wild. I also have a Concealed Carry Permit But would Never consider carrying a gun in a City to protect my equipment! Too dangerous for me!

If someone gets too close and you say, "Stop, or I'll shoot" but the person doesn't stop and you kill or injure him, and then you find out he was having a medical emergency (for example, prescription drug interaction, stroke), will you feel bad?

Are there statistics on how many two-legged thieves wander around the wilds hoping to stumble into someone with expensive camera gear?

Is that Right? Did I say I was afraid of the world? Leaving it safer for the rest of us? Good Luck to You! I’m talking about theft. Do you wear rose colored glasses and are not aware of your surroundings Sir?

I have traveled in ,perhaps, the most dangerous countryside in the US with many thousands of dollars of medical implant gear. Streets of NY City. And have had cars broken into a coupla times, but never had any personal difficulties. From Harlem to Red Hook to Sunset Park to East New York, to Far Rockaway, never had a single threat.

I also try to bring along a good amount of caution and common sense.

So far (74 years), I haven't had the need to shoot anyone. My wife used to say that she was glad we didn't have a gun in the house - for my sake.

Concealed Carry permits required gun education Linda. You don’t run around saying stop or I’ll shoot! This thread is about being far from home all alone in the wild! There are some Hogg’s that will understand what I mean.

I tend to not take expensive photo gear into scary criminal infested forests. If you feel you need to carry a firearm to protect your gear, maybe you should find safer destinations. If there are bad guys looking to take your expensive gear, they probably won't be advertising there presence or intensions.
