I wanted to see what would happen if I panned my camera while taking images of the ocean/beach. I have done this with landscapes as well. I ended up liking the effect it had on the images. I was never as pleased with the panned forest/trees, though I have seen images online that I did like with this method applied. I have panned unintentionally while taking pics from the motorcycle. The problem with the effect from the motorcycle is slowing the shutter speed to get the effect and trying to get a sharp image while bumping down the road from the back of a bike is challenging. I have panned purely for the texture of something and applied it to other pics also. Any other panners out there?

[Not sure why I like it but #6 really works for me. It must be hard to pann up and down while on a bike?

Not here but I'm overcome with nostalgia this morning. Sold my last Harley, a 100th anniversary Wide Glide, about six years ago after riding one or another of the models over a very enjoyable 55 years. ...

Love the ocean images and the forest, very impressionistic. Were your shots handheld?

wham, last 3 were from the bike but the others were not. sorry if my description was not clear. i am glad you like #6, there are many online who have landed much better results than I did. Panning up and down is harder for me than panning side to side.

We still have several bikes but have not ridden in about 6 years due to my husbands health. I think it is likely time for us to sell as well. Seeing the bike pictures had the same effect for me.

It's probably easier to pan to the side because we can simply turn our body. Up and down is harder I think because we do it all in our arms.

You are right, Wham. I did find some tree shots that I took from the bike. You can tell the motion is going more to the side but also up and down from the bumps of hand holding on the back of a bike. Miss those days...I often took my camera during the ride.

Koodoos for just getting the shots. Most of us would have landed on our fatty acids and destroyed a camera!!

Please note that I was not driving the bike, I was a passenger on the back, and it is a big bike with a side car, so nice comfy, stable seat I was perched on. AND, the camera strap is always around my neck...we MUST protect our gear! I am an explorer, not a dare devil.

Sorry, but none of your photos made it clear that you were in a quite stable seat. Thanks for the clarification.

I just took that for granted having been the one there, my apologies. I do not want anyone to try riding a motorcycle while taking pictures and get injured, so I wanted to make that very clear and the fact that I did not endanger anyone else either. Always safety first. Appreciate your comments so that I could make the clarification!

Thanks, kpmac. I was pleased with the outcome on those as well, some more than others.
