Just had my Mark II and 18X200 in the shop for a tune up and I said something about maybe Canon has a newer version of that lens. The guy says no but pulled out a brand new Tamron 18X400 that he says is a big seller. That, to me, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good lens. Anybody have first hand experience with this Tamron? Thanks...
By the way, I was almost home (45 miles away) before I thought that I should have asked him if I could rent it for a couple days.
About 15 years ago I purchased a 28-300mm Tamron lens. I used it moderately for two years and it stopped working. I emailed Tamron service and they said they knew what the problem was and it would cost me about $100 to repair. That was the last cheap lens that I bought for my 7D, 6D, 5D mk3 and 5D mk4. I now purchase only Canon glass.
That Tamron lens has been mentioned on this forum umpteen times. The lens is crop sensor formatted only, cost about $650. And is one of the very popular lenses on this forum, with high praise. I haven't purchased one yet, because I still like my Nikon 70-300mm lens. And I have another Nikon 18-55mm kit lens to go wider. If I need to. I'm still considering it through. Do a search on Tamron 18-400mm. Nothing but good comments about it. It is not a premier lens. It's an everyday, one only travel or leisure lens. Tamron lenses have a 6 year warranty.

The 18 -400 is heavy. Much heavier than you current 18-200. You may want to put it on your camera and see how it feels. Not a carry over your shoulder all day lens.

Tamron lenses have a 6 year warranty. I have personally sent them back a lense and in three days.....it was adjusted, cleaned and shipped back to me. I have had several of their lenses, and better luck with them than Sigma on my Canon cameras.

I have the second version 28-300 and it is a pretty good lens. I like the Canon 28-300 better but only when I compare them side by side. Tamron makes good stuff for the money.
I have owned the Tamron 18-400 lens for 2 years. It is my favorite walking around lens.

Tamron has at least a 4 year warranty, probably more. Tamron and Sigma lenses are not cheap lenses and compete with, and often exceed, the quality of OEM lenses.

I have one, and I've carried it over my shoulder all day long with no problems on my Canon 7D Mark II.
Quite a few people here have that lens. If you title a new post, "Do You Like Your Tamron 18-400mm Lens?" you'll get a lot of replies and posts of images. I use a Nikon 28-300mm, but this goes farther in both directions.

I have a 18-400 on my NIKON 7100 !!! It stays on my camera all the time. My 10-16 Tokina stays on my other NIKON. I am fixed for life. Sony in my shirt pocket.
This just was a major topic last week, go back and see if you can find the post. I have the lens, but would not recommend it, while others really like it.
Yes I use an 18-400mm on my 7D2 image quality isn't tac sharp at 300 to 400 end especially ,but it is a handy walk around lens for family outings and travel and I have got some art quality landscape prints from it . It is also just short enough to get me into Miller Park for Brewer's games . It does better in good light .If I'm going after nature where IQ is a issue I take my Canon 100_400LII
I have shot with a lot of Tamrons... But I would often test a Tokina against one first. Tokina's have often mildly amazed me for sharpness.
In any event, I would almost take a Tamron or a Tokina any day over an OEM lens. Since they are only competing in the lens side of the equation, you may be surprised by their quality.
