Murky Day View

We live with the sea not more than a couple of miles away at three of the compass points, so sea mist is quite common and we encounter it regularly when dog walking. We also live in an ancient quarrying village, still active.
This view always fascinates me because of the close proximity of quarry to cottages (which of course are no longer owned by quarrymen - they are now mostly holiday homes). This was a typical 'murky-day' walk.
I wonder if the image does anything for others, or whether its value is just a personal thing?

I'd say it's a typical back yard shot. It means more to the person whose back yard it is than a casual viewer. If you'd taken it in better weather the stonework may have had wider interest. However, some people like misty shots and some like shots of architecture, so for them it will have added interest.

Not many have a quarry in their front yard though R.G.! Take your points, and it’s pretty much what I thought. Thanks for commenting.

Yeah, I don't think a quarry machine constitutes "typical" either, Dave But it is hard to see and harder to know what is going on. It could be clean-up after an earthquake or bomb, a very somber thought.

Is the vignette from your lens or added?

It’s just a quarry but it rather overpowers the housing, I think. Of course the cottages were there for a purpose once, but they’ve been added to, improved, converted, all the things that make them somehow out of place next to a quarry. But the quarry was there first! No added vignette Linda, as far as I recall.

Although there's a bit too much unnecessary for me in the shot, I think there is the kernel of a great photo. I'd crop almost square, inside the pole on the left and down the middle of the first large structure on the right. This creates a lovely visual path, through the gate, past the first little barn, through the mist, to the machinery, and then back down because of the high contrast at the gate.
I quite enjoyed the photo because it was not all gussied up.

Nice idea for the crop Bob. My wife, who isn’t one for messing with photos too much, liked it for its ‘straightforwardness’ too. Thanks for your comments.

Looking again at the result Linda, however it got there, that vignette needs to go. I’ll deal with it!
